The Philippine National Privacy Commission (NPC) recently issued Advisory No. 2024-03 titled "Guidelines on Child-Oriented Transparency" ("Advisory on Child-Oriented Transparency"), which expounds on how personal information controllers (PICs), either on their own or through their personal information processors (PIPs), should comply with the transparency principle whenever they process personal data of children in the context of their products or services that are specifically intended for, or likely to be accessed by, children. Additionally, the NPC also recently released Advisory No. 2024-04 titled "Guidelines on the Application of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA), its Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR), and the issuances of the NPC to Artificial Intelligence (AI) Systems Processing Personal Data" ("AI Advisory"), which provides guidance on the responsible development and deployment of AI systems that process personal data. The second session of the Construction Law Developments in Asia Pacific seminar discussed key topics and cross-border DR mechanisms to resolve, avoid or manage disputes. Quisumbing Torres Dispute Resolution partner Jared P. Amoroso spoke at the 2024 Regional Arbitral Institutes Forum (RAIF) conference in Sydney, Australia, organized by the Resolution Institute - excellence in dispute resolution in Australia and Aotearoa. Jared discussed the development of Philippine legislation and how these have affected commercial arbitration practice and jurisprudence in the Philippines. In his capacity as president of Philippine Institute of Arbitrators (PIArb), Jared also presented to the country members of RAIF a comprehensive report on the Supreme Court rulings touching on arbitration in the Philippines, for the past 3 years, and statistics on enforcement cases in Metro Manila. Dispute Resolution associate Caryl Louise Medina helped prepare the report.    The RAIF is composed of the leading arbitral institutes in 9 countries – the Resolution Institute in Australia, Arbitration Association Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, Indonesian Arbitrators Institute, Malaysian Institute of Arbitrators, Singapore Institute of Arbitrators, Thailand Arbitration Center, and Japan Institute for International Arbitration Research & Training, and the Philippine Institute of Arbitrators. The RAIF allows its members to collaborate on common objectives, including serving the educational and social needs of the members of the arbitral institutes, facilitating the exchange of information on arbitration and promoting understanding and cooperation between their respective institutes. #disputeresolution #arbitration #philippines
