“The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center has managed to apprehend 11 scam hubs both illegal and both legal. This is in cooperation with various law enforcement agencies such as PNP and NBI,” said Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, the agency’s budget sponsor. Sen. CYBERCRIME ADVISORY REPORT SCAMS TO 1326 , NOT TO SOCIAL MEDIA The Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has renewed its appeal to the public to report scams and all forms of cybercrimes to the Inter-Agency Response Center (IARC) hotline 1326 instead of ranting on social media. CICC Executive Director Alexander K. Ramos made the appeal following the surge in complaints on the unauthorized fund transfers this weekend involving the e-wallet GCash. “We encourage the public to please report to CICC if they were affected by the recent e-wallet loses. We may be able to assist them if they call 1326 so they can be assisted in the investigation instead of posting their loses in social media,” Ramos underscored. “Your social media platforms will not in anyway assist you nor resolve your loses in your e-wallets,” he added. CICC is currently coordinating with GCash to understand what transpired and is collaborating closely with the National Telecommunication Commission on how victims can be assisted. As of 8 pm (November 9) majority of those affected and reported the unauthorized fund transfesr had their money returned. The IARC hotline 1326 is toll-free and operates round-the-clock from Mondays to Sundays including holidays. Issued by the Office of Executive Director Alexander K. Ramos

SCAM WATCH PILIPINAS WARNS OF ONGOING SOCIAL MEDIA VULNERABILITIES, URGES STRONGER CYBERSECURITY MEASURES FOLLOWING HIGH PROFILE HACKS ON X In a surprising turn of events, the official X (formerly Twitter) accounts of some of the Philippines' largest media organizations, including ABS-CBN and GMA Network, were hacked earlier this morning. The incident has sparked widespread concern about cybersecurity across the country. The hacking was noticed when unusual posts appeared on both accounts, tagged with “$HACKED.” These posts immediately caught the attention of netizens, leading to widespread speculation and alarm among followers. Control of the accounts was quickly restored. In addition to ABS-CBN, with 9.5 million followers, and GMA Network, with 6.6 million followers, several other major organizations and public figures were affected. Among them were @people Magazine with 7.8 million followers, @moneycontrolcom with 1.4 million followers, soccer star @neymarjr with 224.7 million followers, UK left-wing organization @evolvepolitics, the Malaysian Election Commission @sprgovmy, SM Cinema, and many more. The hackers posted identical messages promoting a cryptocurrency token called $HACKED on Solana, encouraging people to buy the token to inflate its value and profit from increased demand. Despite the extensive promotion, the scheme seemed to have limited success, with the scammers making only modest gains from the operation. It remains unclear how the hackers gained control of the X accounts. Experts suggest that a compromised API key may have been responsible, though third-party apps linked to the accounts could also have been the entry point for the attack. Scam Watch Pilipinas stresses the importance of strong security measures, including multi-factor authentication and regular account activity monitoring, to prevent similar incidents. This hacking of high-profile accounts highlights ongoing vulnerabilities in social media platforms and the urgent need for improved security protocols. Authorities are investigating the origins of the hack and are urging other organizations to review their cybersecurity practices to prevent future incidents. As the investigation into this alarming hacking incident continues, authorities are urging all organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity measures to ward off such attacks. The hacking of accounts like ABS-CBN and GMA Network reminds us of the vulnerabilities in our digital world. ###

Hey mom, we’re on TV. 😅 Discussed how Gogolook’s Whoscall App can keep the Filipino digital life safe during Alvin Elchico’s consumer centric program, Wais Konsyumer in Teleradyo last Saturday. Mel Migriño 梅尔, Gogolook Country Head, explained where to download and how to use the Whoscall app. As part of the Gogolook #DapatAllMagWhoscall campaign in PH, Mel also shared the PH Scam Report which were turned over to the Cybercrime Investigations and Coordinating Center. Our law enforcements need scam data to be part of their database in aid of pinpointing scam operations. This is how the numerous Scam Hubs are being detected and scammmers arrested. This is why we continue to encourage Filipinos to report. #DiscoverTruth360 #DapatAll

Their resolve was further bolstered by the unraveled modus operandi of raided illegal POGOs found to be fronts for online scamming hubs." https://lnkd.in/gafmFR2e
