GGuest UserOur stay was wonderful. We went during the week and the overall experience was perfect. The location is quiet and tucked under a small hill with direct view to the great wall which is amazing. The room is super spacious and minimally decorated while totally functional, plus it features a scented steamer to give it a spa feel. The hot spring in the room is golden (best after a day of hiking and walking).
The hotel décor isn’t brand new, so there may be some small marks on the wall, for example, behind the mirror or by one door (speaking more about hosts who don’t take care of the facilitates than the hotel management itself). That said, everything is quite clean, and tidy, comfortable and warm. There may be one or two chilled bugs (tree bug or a small bee) visiting your room…it is the mountains after all. But they are harmless and if you cannot or prefer not to deal with them, the reception is happy to help you.
The service is excellent, plus they were so kind to gift us a warm white mushroom soup (sweet warm delicious drink/dessert-y local delicacy) to warm us up the first night. And the next day when I asked what it was, they were kind enough to offer another cup 😊
Their coffees are excellent! They have a small bar offering simple cocktails and a fridge selling other soft or alcoholic drinks like soda, juice, beer and wine (simple). The hotel set meals are honest and simple, not home-style or farm to table but rather “continental”. However, they are super flexible and accommodating with options and somewhat late orders which is very appreciated on trips when you are not 100% sure you will make it in time for dinner, etc.
They did have a local driver and offered a one-free trip from or back to the train station or another place around the area. He’s quite nice. However, if you are on a tight budget, better check with other drivers for your paid trips and compare with the hotel one to make sure you get the best value for $.
Recommend 100% yes! Foreign and Chinese customers we all seemed quite happy.
Do they speak English? I am not sure sorry. But Trip.com staff are very helpful in cross-communication and the ladies are young so they might!

A friend told me that the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall is more interesting, so I checked the homestays around the Mutianyu Great Wall on a certain book. Many people recommended this Sansan Homestay, which is really good. There are four of us who stayed in two standard rooms. The service lady was very careful to arrange us in a single-family house, giving us a lot of private space. The room is more than 50 square meters and very spacious. The service staff here are very attentive and enthusiastic. The environment in the hotel courtyard is also beautiful, especially suitable for vacation and relaxation!

JJackeyjj24Because I couldn't buy the train ticket to Baoding on May 1, I temporarily changed to Mutianyu Great Wall. I didn't expect to encounter such a good homestay ”Yanxiting”. First of all, the location of the homestay is very good, and it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the cableway. Secondly, the room is clean and sanitary. You can see the mountain view when lying on the bed, and the quilt and pillow have the fragrant smell of the sun. Thirdly, the dishes made by the boss lady are really delicious. One person can eat two styles of Chinese and Western food. Later I learned that the boss lady was engaged in the food industry before retirement. After retirement, she renovated the old house and started a business in her later years. 👍No wonder she pays more attention to the food and hygiene of the homestay. Although I only stayed in ”Yanxiting” for one night, I felt like I was at home. This is a warm and cozy homestay. I'm afraid that I won't be able to book a room in ”Yanxiting” next time I go back😂

GGerald SimpsonWe (3 people) stayed for one night at the Stone Forest cottage. Getting to the retreat and back to Beijing was easy, we did it all with DIdi. Once at the retreat the shuttle bus to the Great Wall, or to and from the cottage (with luggage) is super easy to arrange with the hotel. From Stone Forest to the Brickyard hotel is a short 5 minute walk and in the centre of the village there is a convenience store, a couple of restaurants, coffee shop and an art gallery.
The hotel has a number of facilities and is well maintained and stylishly decorated. There are plenty of Insta spots fo those looking.
As for Stone Forest, this is a great little cottage to escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing. It has all the amenities and a nice garden to sit in with a BBQ. Mosquito coils and spray is provided, thankfully during our stay, there were not too many around.
Finally, I would like to mention the staff at Brickyard retreat. All were super helpful and friendly and went out of their way to make our stay special.
We can definitely recommend a stay and wished we would have booked more nights.

TtorinessThis is a good budget option if you want to stay overnight near Gubei Watertown - but there are serious limitations. It was very confusing and quite stressful when we first arrived at the location provided - we couldn’t find the address given, but a local lady was very helpful and called the owners/managers for us and then a driver came to collect us. The address given is a meeting point, not the location of where you are actually staying. It was as we were driven to the 2 apartments (not rooms in an individual villa) that I realised we were not staying in or right at the Watertown as I thought we were. It was a 5-10 minute drive away. To be clear the managers were very friendly and always available on WeChat and the driver took us to and from the Watertown whenever we liked so that was fine - but it means you have to pay entry every time you enter the Watertown - which is expensive - so just take that cost into account. There also didn’t seem to be anywhere to eat at the apartment complex either but perhaps we couldn’t find it (it was a huge complex) so I recommend you eat before you go or take (especially breakfast) food with you. I booked two rooms with a view. One room had a GREAT view of the Great wall (photo included) and the other looked at nondescript trees and grass the other direction. Mainly I went on this special trip with my older parents to Gubei so it was disappointing that we weren’t really staying together in a villa - we were in a giant apartment building on separate floors.

GGuest UserI booked a B&B with my friend's family, and it felt really good. I usually stayed in hotels before, and the few B&Bs I booked cost 1K+, but this one gave me a good feeling. First of all, the store is big, with several courtyards. The courtyards are very well designed, and the decoration and design inside are very thoughtful. It has a festive atmosphere during the holidays. It feels like I have gone to someone else's home. It is a quiet and warm type, which is completely in line with my aesthetics ~ The hotel proprietress is very beautiful, capable of many things, has a very good attitude, is very efficient and very enthusiastic!
Breakfast is served in portions, so you don’t have to worry about arriving too late in the morning and not having breakfast or having it incomplete. Other B&Bs can learn from this. I think it’s very good and unexpected~
I also picked up ski equipment and could help me buy Nanshan ski tickets. The price of ski tickets will go up if I book them on Ctrip on the same day, but if I book them on behalf of the boss, I can buy them in advance at a discounted price, which is also pretty good!
Next time I come to Nanshan for skiing, I will stay here again. It is also close to the ski resort, a 5-minute drive away, and there are plenty of parking spaces at the door, which is quite spacious!
The hot pot we had in the evening, a la carte, cost 100 per person, which was also very good! The service was excellent!
