A Day in Ghent and Brussels: My Belgian Adventure
My day begins in the enchanting city of Ghent, where the morning light dances off the waters of the Graslei. Walking along this historic quay, I’m captivated by the beauty of its medieval guild houses reflected in the canal. The peaceful ambiance pairs perfectly with the warm waffle I grab from a nearby café—crispy on the outside, soft and sweet on the inside.
I make my way to Gravensteen Castle, its imposing stone walls a striking reminder of the city’s medieval past. Exploring its towers and battlements feels like stepping into a storybook. From the top, I enjoy breathtaking views of Ghent, its gothic spires piercing the sky. Before leaving, I visit St. Bavo’s Cathedral, where the famous Ghent Altarpiece leaves me in awe with its intricate detail and vivid colors.
Mid-morning, I hop on a train to Brussels, a journey of less than an hour. As I step into the Grand Place, I’m struck by its grandeur—the ornate facades of the guildhalls gleaming in the sunlight. I linger for a while, taking in the rich history of this UNESCO World Heritage site, then find a cozy café for lunch. I savor a plate of moules-frites (mussels and fries), paired with a refreshing Belgian beer, the flavors as bold and satisfying as the city itself.
My afternoon takes me to the iconic Atomium, its futuristic spheres shining against the sky. Climbing to the top, I’m rewarded with stunning views of Brussels. Back in the city center, I wander through the Sablon district, where the scent of chocolate draws me into a chocolatier. I can’t resist sampling hand-crafted pralines, each bite a revelation of silky sweetness.
As evening falls, I stroll past the Royal Palace, its majestic silhouette glowing under the city lights. Reflecting on my day, I feel I’ve experienced the best of Belgium—history, culture, and indulgence all wrapped into one unforgettable adventure.
