🌍 Protecting Thar's Legacy: Say No to Land Leases!#RejectCorporateFarming #RejectTharColonization The Thar Desert, rich in history, culture, and natural resources, faces a dire threat from land lease projects that risk destroying its unique ecosystem and the livelihood of its people. Here's why we must act: 1️⃣ Destruction of Agriculture: Thousands of acres of fertile land that support organic rainfed crops like pulses, millet, sorghum, sesame, and vegetables are at risk. These crops are the backbone of Thar's food security and sustainable farming practices. 2️⃣ Forest Loss: Thar produces 3.3 million tons of wood annually, vital for the environment. Losing this forest cover will have devastating ecological consequences. 3️⃣ Pastures at Stake: Cattle pastures for 550,000 livestock are being destroyed, threatening the survival of both animals and the families who depend on them. 4️⃣ Impact on GDP and Livelihoods: Thar contributes: 1.3 million tons of meat annually to Pakistan's GDP. 3.8 million tons of milk annually, essential for nutrition and commerce. Livestock alone generates 5 billion PKR in income for the locals. All of this will be lost. 5️⃣ Wildlife Extinction: Thar's unique wildlife, including millions of deer and peacocks, faces extinction due to habitat destruction. 6️⃣ Cultural and Historical Loss: These lands, forests, cattle pastures, and water ponds are not just resources—they are a living representation of Thar's heritage. Destroying them would erase centuries of culture and history. We urge the government to reconsider this decision and prioritize the voices of Thar's people, who rely on these lands for survival.
