Therapeutic Intervention Cheat Sheet - When to Use What But it is vital to remember that therapy is an art as much as it is a science. Always conduct thorough assessments and use your clinical judgment when making decisions on interventions. Mind & Psyche #mentalhealth
Understanding the Fawn Trauma Response Through Neuropsychology The fawn trauma response, characterized by excessive people-pleasing to avoid conflict, is deeply rooted in our brain's survival mechanisms. Key Neuropsychological Insights: Amygdala Activation:Triggers the fawn response as a safety mechanism. Prefrontal Cortex:Overridden by threat signals, leading to automatic fawning. HPA Axis: Dysregulated by chronic stress, reinforcing fawn behavior. Impacts: Emotional exhaustion and anxiety. Loss of personal identity. Healing Approaches: Mindfulness: Enhances awareness of automatic responses. Therapy: CBT helps reframe thought patterns. Self-Compassion: Supports boundary-setting and self-worth. Understanding the neuropsychology of the fawn response enables more effective therapeutic interventions for lasting emotional well-being. #Neuropsychology #FawnResponse #TraumaTherapy #MentalHealth
Stress vs. Anxiety Simple Yet Critical Differences Stress and anxiety often feel similar and can overlap, but understanding their distinctions is crucial. Stress is typically a response to an external trigger, such as work deadlines, financial pressures, or major life changes. It's often temporary and can sometimes motivate you to overcome challenges. Anxiety, on the other hand, is more persistent and doesn’t always have a clear cause. It involves excessive worry or fear that can interfere with daily life and can arise even in the absence of a direct threat. Recognizing these differences helps in managing each condition more effectively and seeking appropriate support. #Stress #Anxiety #MentalHealth #Wellness #MentalHealthAwareness #StressManagement Mind & Psyche

Stress and anxiety may seem similar, but they have distinct characteristics. Stress typically arises in response to external pressures and is temporary, often fading once the stressor is resolved, while anxiety tends to linger, stemming from internal worries and uncertainties. Recognizing this difference can aid in effective management strategies, empowering individuals to prioritize self-care and seek support when needed. For #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth, I'm reintroducing my #DSMinPictures series. Why this series? The DSM (or ICD) and diagnostic codes aren't perfect, and this series isn't about claiming they are. It's about breaking down how these diagnoses work to increase transparency and reduce confusion around the diagnostic process. Bipolar disorder can cause a lot of confusion—distinguishing between bipolar 1 and 2, and differentiating bipolar from things like ADHD and autism (which it often co-occurs with & shares overlapping experiences) is not small feat. This week, I'm breaking down bipolar 1 and will be back next week with an overview of bipolar 2.
