Our Director Global Health, Dr. Ali Turab represented AI-Sarosh at the symposium, Clinical Trials in the Era of AI: A Catalyst for Faster and Smarter Trials hosted by Shifa Clinical Research Centre. Dr. Ali introduced the 9 projects being conducted under AI-Sarosh in Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. He expanded on why there is a need to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) in healthcare, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) to build capacity. He further expanded on the challenges faced in AI implementation and how the grantees are working to tackle them. The symposium brought together a diverse group of national and international experts to discuss the potential of integrating AI into clinical trials. AI-Sarosh is a knowledge hub that aims to make sexual and reproductive health services, information, and resources more accessible, reliable, and accountable in South Asia. Its goal is to help people make more informed decisions and receive quality care using Artificial Intelligence (AI). Together, we work towards our unified goal of a healthier, more prosperous South Asia. #PHCGlobal #ImprovingLives #AI4GH #IDRC #AIinHealthcare #SouthAsia #HealthcareInnovation #AISarosh #AIinPublicHealth #AKU #ArtificialIntelligence #symposium

In collaboration with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, PHC Global team achieved a surge in immunization coverage in Districts Bannu and Lakki Marwat in KP. What was different? A community-centric approach that aimed to convince and communicate the benefits of immunization! The project titled Integrating Immunization and Essential Health Services with COVID Vaccination aims to improve immunization coverage rates in underserved areas of KP and Balochistan by improving frontline health workers' capacity, vaccine storage, AEFI management, and addressing vaccination myths through community awareness. The implementation involves governance strengthening, community engagement, healthcare worker training, mobile vaccination services, and routine immunization data analysis, targeting children aged 12-23 months, school children (7-14 years), and engaging parents, community leaders, and government stakeholders. Our Annual Report 2024 is Now Live! February is always a time for reflection at PHC Global, as we look back on the impact we’ve made through research, interventions, and community engagement. 2024 was a remarkable year—our initiative, the Centre for Arts-Based Methodologies and Wellbeing, became an independent entity, and PHC Diagnostics expanded with another lab in Sargodha. We participated in global conferences, presented our work, gained recognition, and integrated interdisciplinary ideas into our projects. At PHC Global, we believe in arts as a powerful medium for behaviour change and place human-centred design at the heart of our work. We are committed to co-creating with communities to ensure our solutions are rooted in lived experiences and meaningful engagement. This year, we’re prioritizing climate and mental health, addressing the urgent health challenges of our time. Evidence, innovation, and the communities we serve continue to shape our journey. Urban Primary Health Care (PHC) plays a crucial role in addressing the unique health challenges of rapidly growing city populations, ensuring accessible, equitable, and comprehensive care for diverse communities in complex urban settings. Our global health team conducted facility assessments and in-depth stakeholder interviews across public and private primary healthcare facilities in Lahore’s Kasur and Sheikhupura districts for Urban Primary Healthcare (PHC) Project in collaboration with SINA Health, Education & Welfare Trust and funded by AGA KHAN UNIVERSITY. The project's data collection focused on assessing the current capacities of healthcare facilities in Lahore in alignment with WHO's Operational Framework for Primary Healthcare, which consists of four core strategic levers and ten operational levers. The core strategic levers serve as the foundation for driving sustainable improvements across the operational levers. This stage of data collection is crucial, as understanding the existing capacity of the system is a prerequisite for proposing relevant policy changes or interventions. Without a comprehensive assessment of the current state, any recommendations for aligning with WHO’s framework would lack the necessary evidence base, making this an essential step in strengthening urban primary healthcare. The team also engaged with provincial and district government officials to gather insights on the current capacity of primary healthcare in Pakistan. #PHCGlobal #ImprovingLives #HealthcarePolicy #PrimaryHealthcare #PublicHealth #ResearchAndDevelopment #AKUH #Pakistan #GlobalHealth #TransformingLives #UrbanPHC #PolicyGaps #DataManagement
