About us
The School of Business Studies (SBS) was established in January 2021 as part of IBA academic structure reorganization, although programs offered now at SBS were introduced as early as the year 1955. SBS includes the Department of Accounting and Law, Department of Finance, Department of Management, and Department of Marketing. The SBS has a student body of over 2900 students and faculty comprising seasoned academics, out of which 42 faculty members have PhDs. Dr Khalid Basit attended the Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona, Spain, from 26th-29th February 2024, where he participated in a GSMA-sponsored panel discussion titled ‘Is 2024 the year of the AI-Centric Telco?’ The discussion was wide-ranging but focused on the following points: The role of the C-Suite in bringing AI into the workplace, not to reduce headcount but rather to augment and support full-time employees. The need for reskilling and upskilling. Critical to this is the building of a digital mindset that views activities within the digital lens. With the proliferation of deepfakes, the need for Responsible AI and how to regulate the development of Responsible AI. On 8th March 2024, the School of Business Studies, IBA Karachi was abuzz with activity at the Assurance of Learning (AoL) workshop and parallel sessions to discuss AoL assessments and rubrics for Spring 2024. The event was organized by the AACSB Review and Execution Committee (AREC) in collaboration with the Centre for Innovation in Learning and Ed-transformation (CILET). Dr. Sana Tauseef, Chair of AREC, led the workshop, reinforcing the importance of AoL and continuous improvement. She provided valuable insights into AOL fundamentals, especially for new faculty members, and explained its implementation at IBA-SBS. Through purposeful dialogue, faculty members actively addressed challenges and explored avenues to bolster the AOL system at IBA-SBS. The workshop was followed by sessions with faculty facilitated by AREC members. The School of Business Studies at Institute of Business Administration welcomed Dr Geoff Perry, Executive Vice President, AACSB International for a campus tour led by Dr Abdullah Zafar Sheikh, Dean SBS, and Dr Sana Tauseef, Chair of AACSB Review and Execution Committee and other committee members. Dr Akbar Zaidi, Executive Director, IBA also briefly joined the campus visit. The tour included a visit to the Library, Finance lab, and student facilities. Dr Abdullah briefed the distinguished guest on the vision and mission of the school of business studies and alignment of the curriculum areas with the mission.
