As partners in innovation, we collaborate with Rolls-Royce and Rhinestahl, an RH Aero business, to push engine borescope inspections into the future. The work we have done with Rolls-Royce has resulted in increased development of our digital tools and paved the way for AI potential. Features like Menu Directed Inspection (MDI) provide specific step-by-step instructions to ease the inspection workflow and the entry of identifications. Rolls-Royce provides Overlays for each specific inspection. These are transparent images with guiding lines that allow the borescope tip to be positioned to provide a standardized image. Standardized images are stored automatically and shared in the associated InspectionWork cloud to allow data analysis for immediate decision assistance as well as longer term fleet management optimization. Our new Turning Tool 2.0 (TT2.0) interfaces with the Rhinestahl FutureDriveNG+ to automate shaft rotation in gas turbine engines, allowing for efficient and simpler inspection task. With OS4.10 launching early next year, we wanted to give you a deeper look into some of the new features you can expect to use on the Mentor Visual iQ+ video borescope. The new Gas Power-assist v5 analytic was trained using over 35,000 representative images from gas turbine inspections across both the aviation and power generation industries. These images have been “characterized” to teach Gas Power-assist about items or areas of interest. This is how the analytic learned to identify defects like cracks and differentiate them from other types of imperfections like corrosion. When Gas Power-assist is turned on, the analytic operates continuously in the ‘live’ state. Along with an indication count, “Gas Power-assist v5” message is visible in the top right-hand corner of the screen to indicate its operation. An on-screen Indication Detected Border alerts the user that the analytic has detected an anomaly. This makes it easier for users to notice flaws when they appear on their borescope screens, increasing their accuracy during live inspections. One of the most exciting features: Introducing Live 3D Stereo! Live 3D Stereo is a new image transform which can be enabled in Live and MDI Live states. It has a customized set of soft buttons tailored for stereo tip use and point cloud generation. Inspectors can use Single View for navigation inside an asset and Split View to assess any irregularities.
