Today, Handsontable hit 20,000 🌟 stars on GitHub! Although GitHub hosts nearly 200 million public repositories, only a fraction of them ever get any attention so thank you 🙌 to all our stargazers for helping us stand out from the crowd! It took us six years to grow from 10,000 to 20,000 stars. During that time, we released 10 major versions, met thousands of fellow developers at conferences and meetups, drank countless cups of coffee, and even got a few silver hairs (at least I did!). We’re still far behind the most starred repository, freeCodeCamp, with its 400,000+ stars, but we’re definitely moving in the right direction ;) GitHub stars serve three main functions: they allow users to bookmark a repository for later, they’re a form of appreciation for using or contributing to the software, and they provide visibility. For those curious about the distribution of GitHub stars across the ecosystem, we recently discovered two fantastic community projects that make exploring it easy and fun. One is the “Map of GitHub,” which shows repositories clustered into “continents” of similar projects. The other provides up-to-date insights. Links to both sites are provided in the first comment.
