❗ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲'𝘀 𝗥𝗮𝘄 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 Europe's energy transition depends on securing its own raw materials in Europe and abroad: wind turbines, solar panels, EVs, and battery storage all require metals. 👉 To safeguard Europe's clean tech ambitions, the Clean Industrial Deal must: ✅ Ensure access to globally competitive and decarbonised energy for metals production. ✅ Ensure a balance between decarbonisation policies and competitiveness ambitions to avoid contradictory objectives ✅ Align with the Critical Raw Materials Act's priorities to facilitate metals circularity and to support investments in the transformation of our sector. As put forward by Quentin de Hults, Director General of International Copper Association Europe: "The Clean Industrial Deal must support the competitiveness of copper and other strategic raw material production in the EU, by ensuring access to competitively priced clean energy, facilitating recycling, and streamlining legislation in line with the Critical Raw Materials Act." ❗𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘀 ⚠️ Without competitive energy prices, Europe’s metals sector cannot survive. Since 2020, 20 European metals facilities have shut down —a major blow to our clean tech supply chain. The #CleanIndustrialDeal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan must step in with: ✅ Immediate energy relief for energy-intensive industries ✅ Smart mechanisms to stabilise renewable energy costs ✅ Long-term policies to ensure globally competitive electricity prices As stressed by Eurometaux’s President Evangelos Mytilineos, “The Clean Industrial Deal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan must deliver short-term measures to secure energy at globally competitive rates for Europe’s energy-intensive industries. Specific proposals have been made, including Greece’s ‘Green Pool’ which addresses the additional cost of matching variable RES supply to stable industrial demand. Similar ideas can be found in the Draghi report and in the Antwerp conclusions, which were signed by producers and consumers alike. The clock is already past midnight, we expect action.” 👉 Our industry is calling for action. 📢 Eurostat Insights: Shifting Trends in European Aluminum Exports to the United States Based on the latest Eurostat data on exports of aluminum and aluminum products (in thousand tons) destined for the United States, we are witnessing significant shifts in market dynamics across Europe. Here are some key observations: 📉 Overall Decline in Export Volumes Total exports to the U.S. have decreased steadily—from 411k tons in 2021 to 307k tons in 2023, with the first ten months of 2024 recording 282k tons. This downward trend may reflect changes in global demand, production cost pressures, or strategic market realignments. Country-Specific Performance Highlights 🔹 Germany: As the largest exporter, Germany’s figures peaked at 103k tons in 2022, then dropped to 70k tons in 2023 and further to 57k tons in early 2024. This decline might indicate competitive pressures or internal market adjustments. 🔹 Italy & Austria: Italy has shown relative stability—moving from 38k tons in 2021 to 41k tons in 2023—with a slight dip to 32k tons in early 2024. Austria experienced a peak in 2022 (43k tons) before falling to 35k tons in 2023 and 27k tons in early 2024. 🔹 The Netherlands: Notably volatile, the Netherlands’ exports dropped from 67k tons in 2021 to 14k tons in 2023, then modestly recovered to 20k tons in early 2024. 🔹 Other Markets: Countries like Greece, France, Spain, and several others have experienced varying trends, contributing to an overall complex export landscape. 📉 Spotlight on Poland's Export Performance Polish exports have remained relatively stable, consistently registering 12k tons from 2021 through 2023, with early 2024 data showing a modest dip to 9k tons. Although Poland's share is modest compared to leading exporters such as Germany or Italy, its consistent performance underlines a resilient market position amid broader fluctuations. 📢 Impact of New U.S. Tariffs from March 12, 2025 Adding further complexity to the export environment, the United States has imposed a 25% tariff on all steel and aluminum imports effective March 12, 2025. These tariffs are expected to influence pricing dynamics and could lead to additional adjustments in export volumes. European suppliers—including those from Poland—may face increased competitive pressures and should consider revisiting their market strategies and cost structures in response to these policy shifts. #Aluminum #TradeTariffs #MarketAnalysis #PolishExports
