Are Improper Staff Qualifications the Main Problem?🤔 After talking to the shipyard workers, a sad picture emerges. We often hear about gross weaknesses in management. The biggest problem is unqualified staff, which leads to conflicts between titled specialists in general fields and those with specialized education and experience in yacht construction. Does anyone really believe that a Project Manager with a management degree has the same qualifications to conduct the construction of a yacht as a professional engineer with several years of experience in a shipyard? Without technical and practical knowledge skills, such a person is unable to understand the complexity of the project and implement it effectively. Planning is essential in all areas of life, especially in business. Even going to the store, we plan what we will buy and how much money we have. So why with big projects, people don't do it or do it wrong? This question is asked by experienced specialists who must fix mistakes resulting from unrealistic schedules and lack of appropriate procedures. In one of the European shipyards, the decision-making was entrusted to an unsuitable person without a technical education. Such a person, although full of enthusiasm, was unable to manage the project effectively. His decisions were based on the experiences of others, what often led to errors. Shipyards have different standards and relying on experience from a different one can be disastrous. A true specialist, an engineer with several years of experience and specialized education, can predict problems at every stage of construction. Knowledge gained over the years allows for managing the project in a realistic and effective way. Unfortunately, specialists often must correct the mistakes of less experienced colleagues, which leads to frustration and creates additional costs. That is why it is so important to employ appropriately qualified staff. The Project Manager with knowledge and experience in yacht construction can realistically assess the deadlines and manage the project effectively. True management is about skill adapting to reality and solving problems effectively. If employees are aware of their strengths and weaknesses, motivated to continuous learning, work better in teams, and solve problems more effectively.
