PVC piles vs the scouring effect Scouring is the removal by the flow of water of sediment such as sand and gravel from around the foundation. We can find this effect in bridge abutments and piers an also in ports and marinas. It can lead to damage to the foundations or even the entire structure, which is why it is so important to protect them from this effect of erosion. Engineers have a number of technologies at their disposal to prevent the scouring effect in marine construction and vinyl sheet piles are definitely worth considering. 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐂𝐎𝐌𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐇𝐄𝐍𝐒𝐈𝐕𝐄 𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐈𝐍𝐕𝐄𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐆𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐀𝐂𝐂𝐔𝐑𝐀𝐓𝐄 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓 𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐘𝐒𝐈𝐒 Vinyl sheet piles have become a common solution for many engineering applications, thanks to their durability, resistance to corrosion, and ease of installation. It must however be remembered that owing to the specificity of the thermoplastic material, certain aspects of vinyl sheet piles design process require special approach compared to traditional steel counterparts. The foundation of accurate displacement analysis lies in comprehensive ground investigation. By understanding and accounting for site-specific soil behavior, engineers can ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective designs. For projects involving vinyl sheet piles, calculating displacements with precision, adhering to norms, and conducting thorough ground investigations are non-negotiable elements of the design and construction process. These practices not only ensure structural integrity but also contribute to sustainable and cost-efficient solutions. By prioritizing these aspects, engineers can confidently address the challenges of complex geotechnical environments and deliver successful outcomes. That is why, we at Pietrucha are so persistent on requesting quality documentation on soil conditions. 𝐄𝐍𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐃 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐑𝐀𝐈𝐋 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐑𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐔𝐂𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐄: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐏𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐎𝐅 𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐏𝐕𝐂 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐅𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐒𝐋𝐎𝐏𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐁𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐙𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐖𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 In some cases, vinyl sheet piles are a perfect alternative to steel sheet piles, concrete structures or gabion walls in the construction of road and rail infrastructure. Particular PVC profiles may be used in infrastructure projects where they function as retaining walls to stabilize slopes or support road embankments. When used as cut-off walls, they are used to prevent the water seepage … … or to construct retention reservoirs at motorways or expressways, especially when there is limited space on the side of the road and the reservoir must have the largest possible capacity. Just as in the project to build a ringroad connecting with an expressway. Vinyl sheet piles were used in the construction of two water retention reservoirs as part of a project to build rainwater draining infrastructure. In this project, profiles GW458/12 were used with lengths of 6.5 m and 4 m, in a quantity of 1252 sq m.

𝐀 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐂𝐇 The products from our portfolio complement one another. Have a look at the project where vinyl sheet piles and composite planks from our offer perfectly complemented each other to create a durable and resistant to external factors infrastructure of the Żabieniec Fishing Farm in Central Poland. ♻ A simple, maintenance-free and costs-efficient environmentally friendly solution that would last for years! 💡 It is worth highlighting that the project in Żabieniec resulted in an innovative use of vinyl sheet piles manufactured by the Pietrucha Group with the wave-shaped GW537 profiles used to form the flow zones within the experimental ponds. 🍀 Our sheet piles, manufactured as monolithic profiles in the extrusion process, are highly resistant to oxidation i.e. one of the main factors responsible for the formation of microplastic particles. 🐟 In accordance with the certificate issued by the Polish Institute of Hygiene, our profiles are also safe for drinking water. They are made of PVC, i.e. a material from used to manufacture water pipes. 👍 The structures made of vinyl sheet piles were complemented with another product from our portfolio. The TerraDeck composite boards were used to construct non-slippery and splinter-free decks, bridges and access piers for the personnel servicing this research and breeding complex. 🐟 The Żabieniec Fishing Farm is a carp farm, where this species is bred using sustainable methods in a full production cycle. Apart from carp, other freshwater fish are also bred in Żabieniec, e.g. zander, pike, tench, grass carp and silver carp, intended for further stocking in ponds, rivers and lakes. The facility also serves as research institute dedicated to freshwater fish inhabiting Polish waters. 🌿 Owing to unique environmental value and the use of traditional farming methods, some of the ponds in Żabieniec have subject to the NATURA 2000 protection.

𝐁𝐔𝐈𝐋𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐓𝐇 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐌-𝐇𝐄𝐗 The characteristic feature of M-Hex profiles are two honeycomb shaped chambers. M-Hex profiles may be installed independently as standard sheet piles or combined with wooden posts or steel pipes for greater reinforcement. This type of profile is especially recommended for the protection of banks, dikes and watercourses against water erosion. In this project, M-Hex profiles were reinforced with wood to enhance the bending moment and rigidity of the sheet pile wall and ideally address the requirements of a given project. M-Hex profiles are compatible with other accessory profiles from the EcoLock range including corners and caps. What are the advantages of PVC profiles compared to other available technologies? ☑ Resistance to corrosion: vinyl sheet piles are an ideal solution for environments with variable humidity. ☑ Quick and easy installation: PVC profiles are light and easy to install, which significantly speeds up the investment period. ☑ Low carbon footprint: PVC vinyl sheet piles are an environmentally friendly, low-emission solution, safe in contact with drinking water. The essence of the green and blue infrastructure is to integrate the goals and tasks related to water management with various forms of green areas. In Będzin, an industrial city located in the South of Poland, our vinyl sheet piles were used in a project to develop the boulevards of the Czarna Przemsza river. 800 square meters of vinyl sheet piles GW300/5.5, with a length of 2 m were used to regulate the embankments of the Czarna Przemsza river and helped create an area of recreation and active open-air leisure. In the past, one could notice that the city turned its back on the river and the adjacent area. Regulation of the river embankments and development of boulevards integrated the river with the city’s urban tissue and brought it back to the citizens of Będzin. The embankment protection structures allowed for the construction of a harbour, enabling leisure activities, including canoeing and water walking ball. The barriers may be individually adjusted to meet the project requirements in terms of material, width, height, thickness of the barrier beams, colour of end posts and their covers as well as some technical properties, including assembly method. The photos which we present below are a good example of how a FloodWarden barrier may be customized. In the case of this project completed recently in Bielsko - Biała, i.e. the Polish capital of cartoon movies, 60 cm high aluminium barriers will protect a popular supermarket against flooding triggered by heavy rainfalls. The barrier posts were customized here to overcome technical limitations. In order to maintain the visual identity of the supermarket chain, the colour of the posts and their covers ideally matches the colour of door and window frames.

Paweł Walenciejczyk and Michał Jakiel are back in Wrocław to carry out an assembly drill of our FloodWarden PRO barriers installed at underground levels of an office building. In this case, taking into consideration the local conditions, we recommended aluminium barriers with flood panels 50 mm thick. We also delivered hangers which on one hand allow for safe storage of the panels during non-emergency periods and on the other hand, should the flood threat arise, allow for a quick assembly of the barrier.
