Our team recently contributed to the React Native TV app template. The template mimics an OTT platform but initially only supported video thumbnails. We stepped in to enhance the user experience by adding a fully functional video player using react-native-video. 🚀 Here’s what we did: 1️⃣ Focus Management: Since the template is designed for TV, proper focus handling was critical. We integrated the react-tv-space-navigation library to ensure smooth and intuitive remote navigation. 2️⃣ Custom Controls for Android: While iOS default controls work beautifully, Android needed some extra love. We designed custom controls to elevate the experience on Android TV. 3️⃣ Web Support: To make the player more versatile, we implemented basic support for web-based TVs, broadening the platform’s reach.
