Kermode & Mayo’s Take

… but less tv more film! Often the tv show hasn’t been fully watched, so no point reviewing it. As for the price, it’s less than a coffee, so that’s fine. They’re also getting to the stage on life where they might actually be on a cruise, so it doesn’t bother me that they’re not doing quite as many reviews these days. Still enjoy listening to their chatter.

Unsubscribing after fifteen years or so, I will catch up with Mark’s reviews elsewhere. The ads are one thing but dumping three full blatant advertisement podcasts in my feed every week is where I draw the line (you really think I “might also like” a podcast by IBM every bloody week?). Really insidious advertising and very disappointing from two people I respect so much.

Still shilling for the big studios I see. Just like back in the old BBC days, superhero movies are reviewed like they are a recently discovered director’s cut of Citizen Kane. (I can still recall how Kermode discovered he liked 3-D after all when Scorsese made one!) This week – of course-the new Paddington movie (Paddington Bear!) got a great review, because, surprise surprise there was an interview with one of the stars. They have to be so sad about political developments across the water as well, from the comfort of their well appointed pads. Of course, every week some obscure foreign language movie will be thrown in to show that Kermode is still a serious film critic after all, but next week they’ll be back to telling us what a serious work of art at the latest flying men in tights opus is.
