Sustainability and profitability are not always compatible in today's organisations, and many still prioritise profitability, as you might expect. However, this question of balancing sustainability and budgets comes down to scoping and feasibility. Any project needs to be scoped correctly to be delivered, which includes sustainability requirements. However, the step before that is critical, the initial strategy phase, which should define the strategy behind the product. If this strategy phase fails, it will cascade problems, and some requirements, such as sustainability, are unfortunately likely to be canned if not seen as a core strategic requirement.
