What are the best ways to find collaborators for a video project?

I was lucky to teach production to college students for over twenty years & had the good fortune of engaging with some amazing talent; many smart, cool people who after graduating became part of my network & sometimes friends. Teach what you can. Honestly sharing successes & failures to help emerging media makers learn is incredibly rewarding & benefits you in career growth.

You need a clear plan before you find collaborators. Who is your target audience and which platform would be the best one to use.

Storytime! (Real-life story tho) I work for Popupsmart, a popup builder software that helps you create popups and even add animations to them. Another company (LottieFiles) provides you with animations that are very small in size so when you add them to popups they don't affect the speed. So I thought why not contact them and ask for a video production? They will showcase the use of their animations, we'll introduce our animated popups to a new audience. Even though we are in different parts of the world, with a good edit, we created a cool video that serves both of our goals. In short, keep an eye on SM and not only the creators in your niche but those who somehow could be related, you will see how there are so many possibilities. xx

I disagree with this statement. It is not difficult to find great people with a vast amount of experience and talent. People, that will not only understand your vision, but help to take it to the next level. Put in the time and effort, you will reap the benefits as will your project.

Hire people based on their personality and their credentials. Look closely at the work they have created, watch their reel and interview them. Do not assume anything. Do not judge or qualify them based on any political association or industry expectations as your project with suffer. I find its best, once your find a d work with a solid crew, to maintain that relationship in more and more projects. Most great filmmakers have successfully used the same key personnel for decades. There is a reason for that.

While you showcase and give ads in social media sites like Facebook and LinkedIn many people will show interest. As you look for collaborators it is important to ask for their portfolio and do some research before you confirm. Take your time to analyze whether both of your work would enhance the project.

This statement is particularly describing the basic needs. This is a long subject to talk about. 1. what kind of video do you want to make? Fiction, documentary, video music, short film etc… 2. write your idea (summary - treatment-screenplay) 3. Make a budget 4. Make a business plan best and worst-case scenarios 5. Make a timeline 6. Make a social media plan Long story short (Build the Project’s Bible) Then, there is a long list of Festivals, production coproduction meetings, and film and video funding laws around the world. Contact important brands that you consider can collaborate in your project as a sponsor. This is a process but once you have your Bible it will be easy!
