Amazing advices for anyone that is working as a wet-lab researcher, independently of your job position, believe us 😉
I just finished my PhD and want to share 3 personal survival tips that helped me academically and mentally. These made all the difference in navigating the ups and downs of the PhD journey. 👇 💡 Tip 1: Exercise weekly. You don’t need to spend 6 hours a week at the gym (be realistic). Just 1 hour can improve your mental health and sleep. Find something you enjoy and that fits your routine. Climbing, fitness, tennis, or anything that works for you! Having a fixed time for exercise, no matter what, gives you a real moment just for yourself. It’s not just about fitness—it’s a break from everything else. Plus, with a set schedule, you’re less likely to skip it by telling yourself “I’ll do it tomorrow.” 💡 Tip 2: Working more doesn’t mean producing more. We often believe that working longer hours leads to better results, but often stepping away and resting is much more productive. When you’re stuck or exhausted, instead of spending 5 more hours late at night, accept that it’s not done, go to sleep, and tackle it with a fresh mind the next day. It can save you a lot of time. 💡 Tip 3: Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s easy to see only the best in other PhD students and think they’re more brilliant or successful. But many PhD students don’t publish at top conferences like NeurIPS, and they still have great careers. You’re a legitimate researcher regardless. It’s more important to find a topic you’re passionate about and work with a motivated, supportive team (like DEEL France-Québec in ANITI Toulouse 🙌) than to chase prestige at a famous university. Prestige doesn’t guarantee happiness or success, but loving what you do makes all the difference. 🎓 A PhD is a marathon, not a sprint. These tips may sound simple, but it’s easy to lose touch with reality during a PhD and forget the basics. A reminder now and then doesn’t hurt. Trust me, I’ve been there—you’ve got this!

𝗚𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝗱-𝗼𝗻𝘀: 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝘁? 🔧 Managing emails efficiently is 🔑, especially in our line of work 🧑🔬. The article "𝟭𝟱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗔𝗱𝗱-𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝘀𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰" (https://lnkd.in/dmg_5h5P) lists some great tools to improve productivity. But here’s the thing: too many tools can overwhelm rather than help. At Advice For Life Scientists, we keep it simple. We test new add-ons, use them for a few weeks, and then decide—keep or delete.
