It is the World #AntimicrobialResistance (AWR) Week, a great oportunity for us to remember the effect our mucus layers in antimicrobial activity. It is not always about the concentration or the strenght of the molecule. The mucus barrier provides a significant barrier to the capacity of these pharmacological agents. Bac3Gel's air mucus models Air3Gel Phyisiologic and Cystic Fibrosis, have been validated in their capacity to asses the effectiveness of common used antibiotics against typical pathogens for lung infections and the results confirm our suspicions. It's very much about the mucus. https://lnkd.in/eiyi_3Ab 1) Permeability assessment of: a) ciprofloxacin; b) tobramycin; and c) colistin after 5 and 24 h through both Transwell supports or PAMPA membranes with (+) and without (−) CF-Mu3Gel (n = 3). 2) Antimicrobial treatment of CF-Mu3Gel colonized with either S. aureus or P. aeruginosa for 24 h.

Bac3Gel is a biotech company producing a first-of-their-kind 3D substrates to culture microorganisms. The gradient 3D substrates mimic the native environment of the microorganisms.
