🚶♂️Advancing Urban Accessibility in Helsinki & Tallinn with Crowdsourced Data 🌍 For individuals with disabilities, navigating a city can be a challenge—especially when accessibility data is outdated or incomplete. To tackle this issue, CommuniCity launched a pilot in Helsinki and Tallinn, harnessing crowdsourced mapping to improve urban accessibility. This initiative was led in partnership with Riesa Consultative Oy and Crowdsorsa The pilot brought together city representatives, accessibility experts, and local communities to co-create solutions that make cities more inclusive. 🚆 Making Public Transport More Inclusive 🚆 Did you know that 1.5 million people in the Netherlands are deaf or hearing-impaired? Recognising this challenge, CommuniCity invited tech providers to find solutions that enhance accessibility in public transport communication. 💡 Fonetic.studio answered the call by developing an AI-powered app that converts spoken transport announcements into text messages—delivered in the user’s preferred language. 👥 Co-creation in Action To ensure the solution meets real needs, the development process involved direct collaboration with the deaf community. In one co-creation session, hearing-impaired volunteers worked alongside local policymakers, shaping a prototype that truly improves access to transport information. 🗓️ The autism community at the Utrecht University of the Arts seeks a technological solution that empowers neurodiverse individuals to monitor their personal limits, manage energy levels, and optimise their schedules. 🎯 CommuniCity is a transformative citizen-centred EU-funded project. It launched 100 Tech Pilots in Europe in urban and peri-urban areas to empower marginalised communities. They are working together with companies, organisations, associations, tech providers, and citizens to develop solutions to overcome digital and urban challenges. The project builds on awarded European as well as national and local innovation programmes, methods, living labs and platforms. It brings the learnings of these together and devises an inclusive, community-driven, agile innovation, and experimentation model. 🤝 We have partnered up with Future Ready Design B.V. in 1 of these 100 CommuniCity pilots to combine the power of research & tech development. We co-create an innovative solution with autistic students. After a successful co-creation session, we are now working on prototypes to test with students in real life. ➡️ Innovative process helps foreigners who are starting a new life in Aarhus 🏙️ Facing a challenge proposed by CommuniCity’s Second Round of Open Calls, Duckwise ApS suggested the co-creation of a user-centred and intuitive app that simplifies the process of setting up a bank account, making the often complex Danish administrative system easier to navigate. Bringing the Power of Decentralized Networks to the City of Porto (Câmara Municipal do Porto) - For More Inclusion Through Community Collaboration! 🤝 Grid Collective is partnering with the city of Porto to pilot Accessibility Mapping for residents and visitors with reduced mobility - leveraging the mapping technology of Proto (de_plan proto). Most cities rely on outdated maps that overlook critical accessibility details, like narrow sidewalks or missing curb cuts. What if instead of relying on centralized hired labor, we collaborate directly with local communities to provide crucial infrastructure data? 📱 Locals collect accessibility data using their smartphone cameras. 🤖 AI automatically evaluates accessibility, while blockchain verifies contributions for secure, privacy-preserving mapping. 💰 Transparent rewards drive participation, fostering trust and accountability. The result? ✅ Crowdsourced insights that are fast, cost-efficient, and scalable.
