True story folks .... A scammer is using my name, sending texts from a UK number, and asking colleagues to follow a link to buy gift vouchers. Thankfully, my colleague did the right thing—and here’s how: ✅ Validate: She called me directly to confirm whether I was trying to reach her. Spoiler: I wasn’t. ⏸️ Pause & Examine: She checked the number sending the message—it wasn’t mine. ⏳ Ignore Urgency: She didn’t let the scammer’s persistence (repeated calls and messages) push her into quick action. 🚫 Ignore & Reject: She knows I wouldn’t hound her about something as random as gift vouchers. While my colleague handled this perfectly, here’s the bigger issue: The scammer keeps changing numbers. Blocking one is pointless when another appears minutes later. This raises a critical question: What responsibility do network carriers have in preventing this? Surely, they have an obligation to properly vet and know who is using a number—even for prepaid accounts. We need better accountability and pressure on telecom operators to step up their game.
