Cold weather can pose some challenges for our pets’ health. Just like us, with winter’s arrival the potential of becoming more susceptible to certain diseases arises, as cooler temperatures can exacerbate certain medical conditions, a matter naturally influenced by other relevant organic factors, such as the age of the animal. Moreover, contextual threats like the antifreeze commonly found in automobiles, air conditioning systems, de-icing fluid for windshields, among others, may represent hazardous scenarios for our beloved companions, due to the risk of ingestion of Ethylene Glycol; a colorless, odorless, sweet tasting but highly poisonous alcohol. One thing is clear: Knowledge is Power! Start by ensuring your pet receives an annual veterinary check-up, as it is vital to assessing its vulnerability to such conditions. In addition, by adopting certain precautions not only you’re able to decrease the risks as it’s a step further in helping them better cope with low temperatures. Having that in mind, Shall we dive into it? #ferrazpharma #cdmo #pets #coldweatheranimalcare #winterswellness

We humans have long sought to unravel the mysteries and challenges posed by the natural aging process and its impact on cognitive decline. With this goal in mind, innovation advances with each new finding, as demonstrated by the Translating Time project—a remarkable database that collects and compares how the development and aging processes affects the brain of a wide range of mammalian species, offering valuable insights into the human brain, itself. In the field of research, the importance of rodents for scientific advancements is undeniable. However, the evolutionary differences between their brains and human brains have driven researchers to explore new scientific models. A shift that, once again, underscores the unique value of our faithful pets in expanding the knowledge we gather regarding our own evolution. Beyond their longer lifespans, compared to mice, dogs and cats share the same environment as their owners, making them similarly susceptible to certain maladies. And in this context, the aging process in cats becomes a representative example of this line of thought. Studies show that a one-year-old cat is comparable to an 18-year-old human. By the second year, the parallel aligns feline’s cognitive stage with the one found in a 22-year-old person. However, when a cat reaches 15 years of age, it can be correlated with an octogenarian human. A stage when many cats begin to exhibit signs of cognitive decline, mirroring the changes seen in elderly humans. According to the findings presented in “Modeling transformations of neurodevelopment sequences across mammalian species” (Workman AD et al., 2013), numerous data show that cats can experience biological changes in brain tissue—characterized by the abnormal accumulation of beta-amyloid protein plaques and the formation of neurofibrillary tangles; changes that eventually lead to the gradual loss of nerve cells, a pattern strikingly similar to what is observed in humans with Alzheimer’s disease. In short, while the importance of our four-legged companions for our well-being is indisputable, it is equally clear how much they can contribute to deepening our scientific knowledge, when applied to human health. #ferrazpharma #cdmo #pets #patudos #catsandalzheimer #gatoseaalzheimer

Water is an essential nutrient and is considered the most critical nutrient for survival. There are general guidelines for daily water requirements in dogs and cats, however there are also individual variations. The amount of water required depends on a number of different factors, including the animal's diet, environment, activity level and general state of health. In a thermoneutral environment, most mammalian species need an intake of ~44–66 mL/kg body weight. #ferrazpharma #cdmo #vets #pets #furryfriends #patudos #pawprintsoffactsandfigures #waterintake
