O que eu gostaria de ter aprendido mais cedo! Quando comecei a minha jornada na medicina dentária, percebi que ser um bom clínico não é suficiente para ter uma clínica. Gestão, liderança, marketing, tomada de decisões financeiras… Tudo isso impacta diretamente o nosso trabalho e o futuro da nossa profissão. Se há algo que aprendi ao longo dos anos é que quanto mais cedo compreendemos a importância da gestão, mais rápido alcançamos alguma paz de espírito. Terminou hoje 1a Edição do Curso de Reabilitação Total Fixa Sobre Implantes - Vertente Protética da gsd academy! Foi incrivelmente gratificante criar um Curso de raiz para a GSD Academy com o apoio da Nobel Biocare. Um formato exclusivo em Portugal composto por 3 sessões teóricas online, Hands-On em modelos para consolidação de conhecimento teórico seguido de dois dias de prática clínica em pacientes com escolha de componentes protéticos, impressões definitivas, provas de passividade, provas de estrutura e de montagem de dentes, entrega de próteses finais fixas implanto-suportadas, oclusão de reabilitação e protocolo de manutenção. Um projeto auto-proposto e fortemente alavancado pelos positivos e visionários que me rodeiam, a sua concretização excedeu as minhas próprias expectativas. Adoro ensinar e quero muito dar esse fruto a todos os que o quiserem receber. Mas sozinhos nada somos e este Curso só foi real - e já com edições 2025 confirmadas! - graças a um grupo de pessoas muito especial. Today, I had the opportunity to participate in the Envista Holdings Corporation online Leadership Conference, where I shared my perspective on the upcoming challenges facing the European and Portuguese dental markets. Thank you, Natalia Hess and Vasco Afonso for having me and for recognizing the value of our journey at GSD Dental Clinics and considering it worth sharing. The Portuguese dental medicine market is currently undergoing significant transformation, marked by structural and regulatory challenges that are likely to drive consolidation in the coming years. In summary, the main points in my view are as follows: 1) Low Consolidation Compared to Mature Markets: Compared to countries like Spain and the United Kingdom, where the sector is more consolidated, the Portuguese market is still highly fragmented, with many small, independent clinics. This suggests a growing trend toward consolidation, as smaller companies struggle to compete with larger, financially robust networks. 2) Increasing Regulation and Rising Costs: The sector is facing new regulations, such as recent legislation on medical radiation, which imposes additional requirements and costs on small clinics. This regulatory burden benefits larger players who have more resources to adapt quickly and with less relative impact on their costs. 3) Investments in Digital Processes and Shortage of Qualified Resources: Digital transformations, such as the adoption of advanced diagnostic technologies and digital management systems, require significant investments that many small businesses may not be able to support. Furthermore, the lack of qualified professionals makes it difficult to adapt to new technological and quality demands, which may favor larger clinics with the capacity to attract and retain talent. These combined factors indicate that the Portuguese dental medicine market is likely to follow a path similar to that of other more mature markets, with accelerated consolidation and increased professionalization and digitization of the sector.

Last Thursday, it was a pleasure to share some insights into the Portuguese dental market at an event organized by the Portuguese Diaspora Council, in collaboration with aicep Portugal Global | España. The conference, titled "Portugal - Spain: Business Opportunities in Strategic Sectors," took place on November 7th at the Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid, highlighting business and investment opportunities in strategic sectors such as automotive, healthcare, and dental. A special thanks to Pedro Paulo Castro, Coordinator of the Spanish Regional Section of the Portuguese Diaspora Council as well to other participants Paulo Morgado and Miguel Fonseca. A thank you to all Portuguese in the diaspora who, through a network of knowledge, have helped showcase Portugal as a place of opportunity with a forward-looking vision.

With over 20 years of experience in the profession, the ability to constantly challenge myself has been one of my main goals. I feel that every time we step out of our comfort zone, we end up getting to know ourselves better, identifying our limits, and also understanding the path we want to take. In the ELP program, I can say that Jilly Carter and Chris Atkinson were essential in helping us see beyond our boundaries.
