Last Friday, the second edition of the European Researchers' Night, NEI Oeiras, took place at the Marina of Oeiras, centered on the theme "Empowering Minds: Boosting Research in Citizen Engagement and Schools." Part of a national initiative led by ITQB NOVA, in collaboration with i3S - Instituto de Investigação e Inovação em Saúde and Ciência Viva, the event aimed to demystify research and connect the public with science. 🔬🌱 A standout moment was the unveiling of the urban art mural “O Voo da Baleia,”🐋 created by artists Ester Andrés and Patrícia Mariano, with support from both the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails project, represented by Cristiano Pedroso-Roussado and Frederico Duarte, and the Science + Citizenship programme. The mural encouraged reflection on climate change and the recovery of oceans and waterways, highlighting the vital role of sustainability. Also featured was the Immersion: Video Art in Academic Research exhibition, presented by Instituto de Tecnologias Interativas/LARSYS researchers. The immersive videos tackled pressing global issues like sustainability, gender, and colonialism, using innovative storytelling to spark dialogue about humanity's relationship with nature and culture. 🖼️📖 Together, these initiatives reinforced NEI Oeiras' mission to engage the public with scientific inquiry and promote ecological awareness. 🍦🐳♻️ What do ice cream, oceans, and sustainability have in common? Surprisingly, they all beautifully converge in the Bauhaus of the Seas Sails! ⛵ This innovative project, as explained by Mariana Pestana, is redefining our relationship with coastal ecosystems through cultural initiatives in seven coastal cities, spanning rivers, lagoons, and the sea. Last week in Lisbon, our consortium sailed to the Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian to share stories and envision a future where people and nature thrive together. In a workshop led by Andrea Molina Cuadro, we explored ways to foster empathy and meaningful relationships with the environment. 🚀 The first edition of the CMU Portugal Academy has officially kicked off! The bootcamp took place last week at the Instituto de Tecnologias Interativas facilities and welcomed the 46 students enrolled in the 3️⃣ Academy’s Advanced Training Programs in digital technologies 👩💻 👨💻 ✅ The Product Management Course was introduced by Paulo Marques, #CMUPortugal Scientific Director and co-founder of Feedzai, and by Oren Zuckerman from the Reichman University who will co-lead the course with Diogo Rendeiro, Director of Incubation at Usercentrics. ✅ The AI, Data Science, and Machine Learning program will be led by Joao Magalhaes, #CMUPortugal faculty member and researcher at the Departamento de Informática - Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. ✅ The User Experience and Service Design will be co-led by Sandra Gama from Instituto Superior Técnico who also heads the HUMAN Lab from INESC-ID ID, alongside Augusto Esteves.
