While the unemployment is a concern, I do think it is worth thinking about how to improve doctoral education, which seems to be what the program is about. I think it is an interesting development.
100,000 new PhDs in Africa in 10 years. Great! But PhD graduate unemployment is a growing problem, especially as higher education institutions in the continent are unable to absorb the graduates we're currently producing. While some may move into other highly skilled professions, many will end up looking to opportunities abroad. We really need to look at the bigger picture.
