🚀 𝟯 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆. As a lab manager, decision-making can be challenging, especially when quick decisions need to be made without sufficient time, data, input, and alternatives. However, there are three things lab managers can do to improve their ability to make effective decisions that benefit the lab. 𝟭: 𝗕𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲. ↪ Decide with confidence. Focus on what's important. Keep it simple and clear. ↪ It's essential to make proper decisions promptly and be willing to admit when they're wrong. ↪ Delaying decisions can be counterproductive and even result in negative consequences. 𝟮: 𝗕𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗴𝘂𝗲. ↪ When you manage a lab, you need to make a lot of decisions, which can be mentally exhausting. ↪ It's crucial to be mindful of your decision-making capacity and conserve some energy for later in the day or week. ↪ Consider not making certain decisions to free up decision-making energy for more important tasks. ↪ For instance, I used to eat the same thing for lunch every day, so I didn't have to make that decision during the day. 𝟯: 𝗕𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. ↪ Quick decisions, such as during lab conversations about small purchases that can improve experiments, are sometimes necessary. ↪ Not all decisions require in-depth research and thought.
