We can walk, we can talk, we have needs just like everyone else – don't be afraid of us – we are all the same!” These powerful words belonged to Nkosi Johnson, a young boy from South Africa who would go on to become a courageous advocate for people living with HIV/AIDS. Born HIV-positive, Nkosi faced numerous challenges but used his voice to fight for the rights of children and adults living with the virus before passing away at the age of 12. His bravery and advocacy work have left a lasting legacy, reminding us that everyone deserves access to healthcare and the right to live a life free from discrimination. On this World AIDS Day let us pledge to take the rights path. Let us commit to speaking out for health equity and ensuring that all people, everywhere, have access to the care they need. Let us honour the resilience and courage of those living with AIDS and work toward a world where no one is left behind.
