About us
TwInSolar – "Improving research and innovation to achieve a massive integration of solar renewables" aims at strengthening the innovation and research capacities of the research laboratory Physics and Mathematical Engineering for Energy, the Environment and Buildings – PIMENT at the University of La Réunion, France, with a focus on the massive integration of solar energy production in La Réunion and other insular territories. Led by the University of La Réunion, the project uses a twinning approach to foster good practices and knowledge exchanges between the University of La Réunion, the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems, which are both internationally renowned research institutes in the field of solar energy. The participation of the Islands Commission of the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR), will ensure the large dissemination of the projects’ results and its replicability, at a regional and international levels. TwInSolar is a Horizon Europe project, funded by the European Union. It will last September 2022 to August 2025 (36 months).

REALISTIC project and TwInSolar project (Mathieu David, Nóra Czakó, Charles Voivret) proposed a joint event at the end of the day and then shared a social dinner in La Marmite, in Saint-Gilles. TwInSolar also held a summer school this week and it was the opportunity for both projects to meet and explore possible future collaboration around the impact of aerosols on the PV production in la Réunion. We also had the intervention of Nicolas Schmutz from Reuniwatt, presenting the actions done by this company in La Réunion island.

⚡ This month, we had the pleasure to take part in 2 events on islands decarbonation! Thank you very much to Island Innovation and the H2020 MAESHA project for their invitation to present the work developped by TwInSolar in La Reunion. Thanks to the support of the European Commission through the Horizon Europe programme, we are proud to contribute to the decarbonation in EU Islands. More details below 👇
⚡ An ENERGIC September month! ⚡ Did you know that the Islands Commission is part of several EU cooperation projects, to foster islands decarbonation ? 🤝 We provide Policy analysis and recommendations, and we thrive to share the projects' results and best practices with other islands and remote areas! ➡ As part of these efforts, on September 9th we had the pleasure to take part in the Virtual Island Summit 2024, to present the TwInSolar project and H2020 MAESHA projects! Thank you to Island Innovation for inviting us! ➡ On September 18th, we took part in a Replication Board on Islands Decarbonation, organised by the Maesha project. Together with 11 other EU projects, the Clean energy for EU islands and the Université de La Réunion, we presented the work developped by the TwInSolar project in La Reunion. We now look forward to our IC Plenary organised back to back with the next Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) General Assembly in Gozo!
