Rest of World announces Christine Glancey as executive editor
The Wall Street Journal veteran will oversee the publication’s daily operations, and alongside Michael Zelenko, manage the newsroom’s coverage of global tech.
Rest of World is pleased to announce that Christine Glancey, a veteran journalist with a storied career at The Wall Street Journal, will be joining Rest of World as executive editor. The new role, which sits alongside our existing executive editor Michael Zelenko, will be responsible for managing and overseeing our daily coverage from around the world. Christine will join us on September 16.
Christine brings a wealth of experience in business journalism, news editing and standards, and newsroom leadership and management to Rest of World. Most recently, she served as a deputy editor for standards at the Wall Street Journal, including creating and advising newsroom-wide initiatives on generative AI strategy, deep fake forensics, and reader trust R&D. With over three decades of experience in journalism, Christine has held key roles at the Journal, including serving as the managing editor for Asia edition in Hong Kong, chief news editor for daily digital operations, and a masthead role as deputy managing editor for news operations and talent.
Alongside her deep editorial experience, Christine has built a reputation as a trusted, compassionate, and principled newsroom leader, seeking innovative tools to enhance organizational culture and building robust management-development programs to coach reporters, editors, and managers. As Rest of World continues to grow its readership and impact, her leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our mission, ambition and reach.
“I couldn’t be more excited for Christine to join us,” said Founder & Publisher Sophie Schmidt. “Her track record as a news leader is exceptional, and I look forward to the many ways her sharp insights and considerable operating talents will prepare our global newsroom for the future.”
“We are thrilled to welcome Christine Glancey to the Rest of World family,” said Anup Kaphle, editor-in-chief of Rest of World. “Christine’s long experience in newsroom leadership and her history of nurturing top-notch business journalism aligns perfectly with Rest of World’s mission to work with talented international journalists to bring untold stories about tech’s impact on the globe.”
“The influence of technology on daily lives around the world — on livelihoods, families and human rights, on health, education and security, on communities and economic zones — is a sweeping and meaningful landscape to cover. I’m thrilled at the opportunity to join and support this ambitious team of global journalists in pursuing their best work,” Glancey said.
