Since summer, HIAS Romania has proudly hosted over 30 conversation clubs in English and Romanian! 🗣️ These sessions have been more than just language practice—they’ve been a celebration of diversity and shared experiences. 💬 Held on weekends, when most participants could join, these clubs provided a safe and welcoming space filled with friendly vibes. Participants practiced what they’d learned and embraced their progress with confidence. What made these clubs truly special was the incredible mix of cultures. Despite the common belief that different cultures don’t always blend, we witnessed a beautiful exchange of ideas and traditions. Everyone was curious about each other's stories, sharing their integration journeys, challenges, and victories along the way. These conversations weren’t just about languages—they were about building understanding, breaking barriers, and creating connections. ❤️ Our participants leveled up their English and Romanian skills while gaining a deeper understanding of their host country, Romania. We’re so proud of what we’ve achieved together and excited to continue this journey of cultural exchange and community building. 🌟

Devastating Floods Leave Families in Crisis in Romania In September 2024, Storm Boris caused catastrophic flooding across Central and Eastern Europe, displacing thousands of families. Romania was one of the hardest-hit countries. In Pechea, Galați province, the aftermath has been particularly severe. The children’s center run by our partner, Fundatia Inima de Copil, was heavily damaged, impacting the lives of 25 children and their families. Many of these children are being cared for by elderly relatives after their parents migrated abroad in search of a better life. Thanks to the dedicated work of Fundația Inimă de Copil, and incredible volunteers, we’ve been able to rebuild a home for Ana Maria, one of the children in the center’s care. Ana Maria, who lives with her great-grandmother and aunt, now has a safe and warm place to call home - just in time for the harsh Romanian winter. 🎥 Watch the video to see how your support is making a difference and hear from Ana about the impact of the recovery efforts. A huge thank you to Fundatia Inima de Copil for their tireless work supporting vulnerable children and families during this crisis. Together, we are creating hope where it’s needed most. #StormBoris #RomaniaFloods #ClimateChange #HIAS #FundațiaInimăDeCopil

For more than a century, we have proudly and resolutely worked to help displaced people. HIAS has helped generations of Jews who were fleeing violence and persecution and now we help displaced people from many diverse faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds. We understand their stories are the same as ours: they are persecuted for being who they are and seek safety and freedom. Most displaced people spend years – sometimes decades – in legal limbo. HIAS’ legal protection programs are dedicated to helping displaced people know their rights and navigate the complicated legal systems that lead to permanent status. Honor International Human Rights Day by learning how displaced people can access their rights. #HumanRightsDay

Raising Awareness About Gender-Based Violence Every Day Gender-based violence (GBV) is a global issue that demands attention not just during the #16Days campaign but throughout the year. This spring, HIAS Romania organized the powerful "She's gone" exhibition at the National Library of Romania, honoring the memory of women who lost their lives to femicide and amplifying the call to end G The exhibition brought together diverse voices — government representatives, universities, students, refugees, and community members — all united in the mission to combat GBV and advocate for systemic change. 💔 One Story from Romania: Delia Among the stories shared at the exhibition was the heartbreaking story of Delia, a 32-year-old mother of a five-year-old girl. Delia loved spending time with her daughter, braiding her hair, and experimenting with makeup. Passionate about fashion, she had a colorful wardrobe that reflected her vibrant spirit. But behind her gentle demeanor, Delia faced a dark reality. In 2021, she entered a relationship with a man she met online. What began as a hopeful connection soon turned toxic. He criticized her devotion to her daughter and pressured her to move abroad with him. Delia refused, determined to stay close to her family. The relationship became abusive, with her daughter witnessing violence firsthand. One cold January night, they were thrown out of their home. That was when Delia decided to leave for good and moved back with her family. Yet, the man continued to harass her, visiting her village and trying to win her back. On February 15, 2022, a confrontation at a restaurant ended with police intervention, but no action was taken. The next day, Delia received a suspicious message and left home, promising her daughter she'd return soon. Tragically, her ex-partner lured her into a deadly trap, brutally stabbing her and discarding her body. Her story is one of countless tragedies that highlight the urgent need for action. ✨ Why It Matters The "She's Gone" exhibition is more than an art display — it’s a platform for stories like Delia’s to be heard. It reminds us of the vital work required to combat GBV,
