COP 29: Key achievements and ongoing challenges - Although the COP 29 conference in Azerbaijan in November 2024 may not have made as much progress as had been hoped for in certain areas, such as on phasing out of fossil fuels, there are nevertheless grounds for optimism. We were delighted to welcome in the past three weeks Kathrin Schünke, Melissa Africa and Michelle Bernet from KPMG Switzerland Audit Corporate as well as, Adrian Walder, Dario Blau, Salome Zellweger, Miruna Beldiman, and Marco Arnold from KPMG Switzerland Financial Services during their business trip to Romania. Our discussion focused on future plans and strengthening our collaboration on the ADA CH project. The visit included insightful training sessions on topics such as Regulatory Audit, Limited Statutory Examination, and Insurance for FS and KCa routines for Corporate. These sessions allowed our ADA team to explore new opportunities and exchange ideas effectively. Beyond work, we also had the chance to socialize and explore the vibrant city of Bucharest together, making this visit both productive and memorable. Many pharma & healthcare companies in Romania are part of larger groups with consolidated turnover of over 750 million EUR. Consequently, they need to consider carefully whether the 31 December 2024 deadline for publishing Country by Country reports (CbyC) applies to them. The requirement was introduced via Romanian accounting regulations, i.e. via amendments of Order no. 1802/2012 by Order no. 2048/2022 and further by Order no. 1730/2023, as a transposition of an EU Directive on accounting related matters. Romania is the first country to have implemented the provisions of EU Directive 2021/2101, which amends EU Directive 2013/34/EU.
