  • What are growth people even doing? You want to hire a growth person or growth agency to boost your business results. What are they actually doing? Is it the usual marketing activities or something new? A growth person, by definition, tackles new ways of achieving results compared to regular marketing. This can imply contacting influencers, engaging in forums, and discovering new advertising tactics & channels. So yes, growth people will do new activities compared to usual marketers. But a growth person can’t be reduced to individual tasks. It’s more about the growth mindset, structure, and processes that shape the growth person. By working with hundreds of growth-focused people over the years, both in our team and our partners’ teams, by witnessing, analyzing, and learning from the ones that have grown at our side, we found twelve key virtues for a growth mindset. So here is, in a nutshell, what a growth person is doing: 1. Interact with different business functions such as product, marketing, and sales to gather perspective and improve processes 2. Keep the eyes on the prize, caring about results over everything else 3. Make decisions based on data rather than gut-feeling 4. Have a full-funnel perspective on the customer lifecycle 5. Adapt to new technology and use it to improve processes and deliver results 6. Experiment with new channels, tactics, and ways to solve business challenges & achieve results 7. Be agile in communication and in finding the fastest path to reach the 1st result 8. Keep tasks flowing rather than getting stumped by perfectionism 9. Have empathy toward the customer 10. Be hyper-optimistic 11. Get better and better and better at their craft 12.   • What even is growth marketing? As people shout “growth” left and right, it’s easy to mistake it for a buzzword that will eventually replace the term “marketing.” This is simply not true. Growth is more than a feel-good term that people add to their LinkedIn bios. To better understand growth marketing and its effectiveness, let’s compare it to traditional marketing: Traditional marketing means using broad, conventional methods such as TV, radio, billboards, etc., to achieve brand awareness, customer acquisition, and customer loyalty.   • Finish with ‘where’ You want to build a community. You know why you want to do it and who should join. (Check our previous posts where we talked about it.) There’s only one question left: where are you building your community? Here are some options based on our community-building experience: 1️⃣ Social Media Groups This is by far the most used community-building method. It’s free, quick, and allows you to post all sorts of content, from basic posts to live Q&A sessions. The most common platforms used are Facebook and LinkedIn. Facebook is more suited for B2C, while LinkedIn is more suited for B2B. 2️⃣ Online Forums Chances are you will find at least one online forum around the topic of your product. The most popular choices are Reddit and Quora, but there are also smaller, niche forums. The best approach is to add value to online forums and answer thoughtfully—nobody likes people who over-promote their products. 3️⃣ Messaging Channels Slack, Telegram, WhatsApp, or Discord offer real-time interaction with your audience. They’re great for building a close community where you can provide quick support. The bigger the community gets, the harder its management becomes. Thankfully, AI tools such as Threado AI help with it, allowing you to expand the community without compromising its effectiveness. 4️⃣ Your Own Platform Building your own platform to host a community is the most customizable, yet the most time-intensive option. Some tools are Softr, WordPress, or Podia. If you have enough time and inspiration, building your own community platform is the best choice.
