In this analysis, The Recursive began decoding the DNA of Series A+ AI startups in CEE and uncovering what makes them thrive. For ambitious founders across the CEE region, reaching unicorn status can often seem like a distant dream. Yet recent success stories, such as a large Series B+ funding round from the region, prove that scaling a business to incredible heights is entirely possible with persistence, strategic vision, and the right support. While some startups struggle to adapt and find market fit, others choose to bootstrap their way through challenging times, standing among those armed with venture capital. At the macro level, according to our State of AI in the CEE 2024 report, where we analyzed 1350+ AI companies—more than 1,050 being AI product companies across their current stage—reveals that Poland, followed by Greece, and Croatia, saw the highest inflow of funds as of August 2024.

🚀 Atomico's State of European Tech 2024 is here, and it's full of insights! The European tech ecosystem has been transformed over the past decade - from talent to capital, to company building and value creation. It’s been a year of political and regulatory turmoil. With this special 10th anniversary edition, Atomico is looking not just to 2024 but to the past decade and what lies ahead. Here are some key takeaways: ✅ Europe’s first $B+ companies came from the UK, Germany, France and Sweden, paving the way for more funding, talent and billion-dollar companies to thrive. ✅ Europe’s talent landscape has transformed over the past decade, and the startup ecosystem now attracts more employees than ever. ✅ Today, the European tech workforce stands at 3.5M. The vast majority of those employees have joined over the past decade with close to 3 million jobs created over that time frame. It's growing at a 24% compounded annual growth rate, which puts Europe on par with the US’s more established scene. ✅ Taking a 20-year horizon illustrates how much the ecosystem has grown. Our pool of capital invested in companies has in fact increased 10 times in ten years, enabling this talent to thrive. ✅ In Europe, the total funding over the past 10 years is 10 times higher than that of the previous decade, having grown from $43B to $426B. To put this in perspective, 2024 is on track to see $45bn capital invested, so in one year it will exceed the amount invested in a whole decade. By comparison, the US grew 2.8 times over the same period, from $249B to $1.2T. ✅ Investment into European tech has levelled up significantly over the past decade. This year, investment levels are on track to reach around $45B — three times as much as the $15B recorded in 2015. 👉 You can download the report here: https://lnkd.in/dQK__DQq #StateOfTech #Atomico #Innovation

Veridion, #TechceleratorAlumnus, started as a side project while all three founders were working for other companies, tells Florin Tufan in an in-depth interview for the Romanian Startups: Roaring Tigers of Europe documentary by start-up.ro, which premiered at the beginning of this year. ”What we really cared about is that we do something that's a technological breakthrough, something that other people don't make. We had no interest in being the Romanian version of something that already exists in London”, Florin Tufan says. The story begins with three tech-savvy founders who started Veridion as a side project while working at tech startups. They weren't initially aiming to build a business, but when they identified a common pain point from past experiences, they decided to explore its potential further, especially when an angel investment offer came along. In this in-depth discussion for the Romanian Startups: Roaring Tigers of Europe documentary, Florin told how Veridion was built and developed over the years, the investments they received, and the challenges to develop a startup in Romania compared to the opportunities of the region.
