This week, RPIA - Romanian Photovoltaic Industry Association, represented by our colleagues Irene M. - Policy Officer, and Adriana Petre - Communication and PR Officer, proudly participated in the 2nd General Assembly of the RETRIEVE project in Barcelona. As our first EU-funded initiative, RETRIEVE continues to be an exciting journey of learning and collaboration, and being part of a consortium with such expertise is truly inspiring. 💡 Our role in translating complex project insights into actionable knowledge for policymakers and broader audiences is a unique challenge that we fully embrace. We remain dedicated to contributing to the project’s progress by shaping a policy framework around PV recycling, organizing workshops and events to foster dialogue, driving innovation, and supporting Europe’s transition to a circular economy. 🔄 Special thanks to ACCIÓ for hosting this event, to Institute for Energy Technology, for such a smooth coordination of the project, and to all consortium members for their ongoing contributions.🙏 Let’s stay inspired by our guiding motto: “The panels of today will be the panels of tomorrow!” 🌱 Together, we are making important strides toward a more sustainable future in renewable energy.

An Outlook on Renewable Energy Projects in Romania🌱⚡ Romania's renewable energy sector is growing, with over 1,000 projects under development across the country. Dolj, Cluj, and Tulcea counties are leading the way, focusing on solar and wind energy, according to IBC Focus data. 📊 Key Figures: 🔹11,000 MW of solar and 4,000 MW of wind projects approved by Transelectrica in 2024. Yet, despite the approval of numerous renewable energy projects this year, actual implementation has been slow. 🔹898 MW of solar and wind capacity in advanced stages, expected to be operational by year-end—an almost 58% increase from 2023, according to the latest data from ANRE. 🔹Solar energy production reached 2.93 billion kWh (Jan-Sept 2024), up 58.6% year-on-year, as reported by National Institute of Statistics  (INS). This includes energy from prosumers, highlighting the role of decentralized production. 🔹From January to October 2024, the VICTA IBC Focus platform recorded 1,126 green energy projects, valued at approximately 107 billion lei. While implementation remains a challenge, support measures like the Contracts for Difference (CfDs) are expected to accelerate Romania’s renewable energy transition. 🌍

🌞 Marking a Key Milestone in Solar Energy: 2 Terawatts Installed Worldwide The Global Solar Council (GSC) has announcedthat solar PV capacity has reached a significant milestone of 2 terawatts globally! 🌍 Remarkably, while the first terawatt took nearly seven decades to achieve, the second terawatt was reached in just two years—reflecting solar’s rapid expansion and cost reductions, now making it one of the most affordable energy sources worldwide. 🌱 2TW of solar = enough energy to power 1 BILLION households worldwide. 🏠 Approximately 60% of this capacity comes from ground-mounted solar farms, while 40% is generated by rooftop solar installations, highlighting the diverse and expanding reach of solar worldwide. ⚡ As solar continues to play an essential role in the global energy system, meeting climate goals will require doubling the installation rate to 1 TW per year by 2030. Increasing access to financing will be key to sustaining this progress. 🌏💰
