📢 Exciting Highlights from YRAP in 2024! 🎉2/2 This year has been a remarkable one for #YRAP with significant contributions to the international arbitration community. Already in the first half of 2024, YRAP has been intimately involved in the organisation of key panels at some of the most relevant arbitration conferences in Europe: 🔹 Bucharest Arbitration Days: #BucharestArbitrationDays 2024: #YRAP also hosted an engaging Oxford-style Debate on the motion: "This House Believes that the EU Law Framework Provides the Same Protection for Foreign Investors as Intra-EU BITs." The debate sparked dynamic discussions and provided diverse viewpoints on the protections offered to foreign investors within the EU. As a reminder, the Key Takeaways of the panels: 🔹 Day 1: the key themes emerging from Day 1 revolved around conceptual approaches that improve the efficiency of the arbitral process. Panels emphasized the importance of ethics, transparency, and international collaboration to enhance the efficiency of the arbitration process. 🔹 Day 2: Investment arbitration discussions from Day 2 centered on navigating the post-Achmea landscape within the EU. The key messages included the need for consistent decision-making, harmonizing standards, and a pro-arbitration stance from non-EU jurisdictions like the UK and Switzerland, especially regarding intra-EU award enforcement. The panel explored how arbitration can be a catalyst for economic growth and global trade. Additionally, YRAP co-organized a conference on "Arbitration, Parallel Proceedings, and Conflicts of Decisions: A Comparative Perspective" in collaboration with CFA40 (Comité français de l'arbitrage), YIAG (Young International Arbitration Group), and PVYAP - Paris Very Young Arbitration Practitioners. Both events were followed by cocktail receptions which fostered valuable networking opportunities. Recognizing the importance of professional and social networking, YRAP has additionally organised a YRAP Lunch Reunion which brought together over 50 YRAP members at one of Paris' spectacular brasseries. 🗳 It's official ! Lucian ILIE (LL.M, MCIArb) is tapped to be the new Co-Chair of YRAP - Young Romanian Arbitration Practitioners. Lucian will be taking over from Violeta Saranciuc, FCIArb, our dear founding co-Chair, and joining his colleagues Liana H. Cercel and Cătălina Bîzîc, for what will surely be an exciting two year term. Lucian is a Barrister admitted to the English Bar, as well as a French and Romanian avocat. He specialises in international law, transnational litigation and international arbitration, with particular expertise in investor-State disputes and commercial arbitration, combining over 12 years of experience as counsel and arbitrator in London and Paris.
