#Georgian #wine is at a pivotal point in its long winemaking history. The past 20 years have seen enormous, unparalleled growth with a 40-fold increase in the number of winemakers producing a diverse range of wines to suit a diverse set of tastes. Lessons have been learned, with wines now spending less time on skins, less time in #qvevri, having fewer hygiene issues and improved quality across the board. In a special report, following a week-long visit, Peter Dean sees a country in an exhilarating phase of winemaking with traditionalists learning new tricks and young winemakers reinventing old – all adapting themselves to the commercial realities of its increasingly important export markets. With UK import figures for Georgian wine showing positive growth since 2021 we ask – is this the time for #Georgia to shine as a fully-fledged producer of mass market, quality wine? https://lnkd.in/dQynhtnR
Autochthoinos
Food and Beverage Services
From the words ‘Autochthonous‘ and ‘Oinos‘, Autochthoinos introduces the world of wine from autochthonous varieties.
About us
From the word ‘Autochthonous‘ (meaning ‘indigenous’ or ‘native’) and ‘Oinos‘ (the Greek word for wine), Autochthoinos introduces you to the world of autochthonous varieties. Autochthoinos provides a wealth of reviews and background information on some of the wine world’s lesser known grape sorts. Though it is estimated that there are some 1,368 vine varieties are currently being used to make commercially-circulated wine, most wine drinkers are familiar with only a small fraction of these – typically, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. Yet from Pošip to Prokupac, Graševina to Grüner Veltliner, there are a host of autochthonous sorts that remain largely unknown beyond those very countries in which they are grown; countries that themselves are not regarded as wine producers in their own right. Through tasting notes and insights into the viticulture of a broad swathe of countries, Autochthoinos hopes to introduce its readers to the wider world of wine! We welcome all recommendations – for new grapes, new vineyards and new means of production – and encourage you to contribute any insights you have to share!

A #wine’s back story is often the thing which makes one wine stand out from another – the history behind the estate, unusual grape varieties, provenance, the politics and the people making the wine. At The Ultimate CEE Wine Fair (the first ever wine fair focusing on the wines of Central and Eastern #Europe) there were stories aplenty, some inspiring, some unbelievable, some tragic, but all stories which made this landmark event unmissable and hopefully the first of many more CEE Wine Fairs, writes Justin Keay. https://lnkd.in/dWXnE6Uv

"Bottling the spirit of #Lebanon,” is the perfect strapline for a business that means so much more than picking grapes and turning them into wine. For winemaking at Massaya, as it is for so many producers across Lebanon, also represents the fierce independence and combined spirit there is in this unique country to stand up and fight against all the odds and continue to provide for your family and carry on winemaking traditions that date back centuries. Richard Siddle talks to #Massaya’s inspiring winemaker, Sami Ghosn, about how he and his brother, Ramzi, have reclaimed and transformed their abandoned and derelict family home in the #Beqaa Valley and turned it it one of Lebanon’s most respected and award-winning winery. https://lnkd.in/gepe5e89
