Meet Sylvia Ambiy: Dismantling Barriers to Education with Chancen Sylvia Ambiy from Kikuyu, Nairobi, is an inspiring example of resilience and transformation. Despite being differently-abled, Sylvia embraced the opportunity to join a data-focused program through the Chancen ISA model. The program has opened doors to learning, growth, and exploration for Sylvia, previously out of reach due to financial and logistical challenges. With Chancen’s support, she overcame barriers like costly transport, reducing a two-hour commute to a 40-minute taxi ride, ensuring she could focus on excelling. At Chancen, 71% of beneficiaries come from low-income households, 65% are women and we embed diversity and inclusivity in everything we do, ensuring we lower barriers to access to education and employment. With 92% graduation rates on average, we’re proud to help individuals like Sylvia unlock their potential. Today, Sylvia believes in herself, feels renewed purpose, and is excited for the future. ✨ We're thrilled to share our experience at the prestigious 100x Impact Accelerator hosted by the London School of Economics ✨ A few weeks ago, our founder and CEO, Batya, had the honor of presenting at the Summit Day event, engaging with an incredible audience of impact professionals, funders, and fellow entrepreneurs. The program posed a pivotal question: How can we 100x our impact? Through insightful sessions and expert guidance, we refined our scaling strategy and deepened our commitment to proving that youth are investable. Our mission is clear: enable financial institutions to offer ethical financing for youth, empowering them with the skills and opportunities they need for employment. We're making significant strides toward this vision: - 93% of our graduates gain employment and go on to earn ~3x the national median income - 96% maintain good standing with their repayments This data demonstrates that it's possible to create both impact and returns—a sustainable model for change. We're excited to continue building on this momentum, driving forward a world where young people unlock their potential and financial systems evolve to support them ethically and effectively. From Rwanda to the World: Improving Employment Outcomes for African Youths Since starting our operations in Rwanda in 2018, our mission has been clear - to make the Income Share Agreement (ISA) model a global force for change, unlocking skilling and employment opportunities for excluded youths… and we are just getting started! The ISA model empowers young people by providing access to tertiary quality education without upfront costs. Once they secure employment, they repay a percentage of their income, fuelling opportunities for the next generation of ambitious youth. As we’ve expanded from Rwanda to South Africa, Kenya, and Ghana, we have witnessed incredible outcomes for our Members, with 93% gaining employment within a year of graduating.
