Reviewing a 3-year journey of Validate.global The results of an initiative for start-ups to open up high-growth markets. Reflecting on the fruitful partnership between INiTS | Vienna's High-Tech Incubator, Impact Hub Vienna and Impact Hubs in Accra, Kigali and Lagos, financially supported by the Austrian Development Agency. In total, Validate.Global supported three cohorts of passionate impact-driven entrepreneurs. Out of 221 applications from 21 different countries, 40 companies were selected. They benefited from a structured market entry approach, proof-of-concepts, stakeholder connections, market intelligence and travel grants. In addition, they received expert advice and access to office and event space in their target countries of Rwanda, Ghana and Nigeria. "We were able to develop a real roadmap for entering a new country. This is invaluable for attracting future investors!" was the feedback from one of the participating start-ups. And the results from the program are impressive: Over 25% of the start-ups launched projects and entered the target markets within the program duration. 50% of the start-ups continued to explore opportunities in their chosen African market after the program. 536 connections were created between start-ups and key players in the target countries. To summarize the program in the words of one start-up: "The programme has facilitated fantastic local contacts that will be critical to our success." Our learnings from Validate.global’s journey will lay a foundation for future initiatives of the implementing partners, as we are looking forward to continue supporting impact-driven innovators.  🎉 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗼𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗲🎉  Earlier this week 𝗕𝗶𝗼𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 recognized 3 agroecological enterprises with its inaugural Agroecological Food Futures Prize (AFFP). The award ceremony took place in Kigali, Rwanda, where Plant Biodefenders from #Tanzania claimed the top honor! 🏆 The AFFP highlighted leading innovative East African businesses driving social and environmental impact, emphasizing their role in food systems transformation and the need for more agroecological investment. It awarded grants and connected SMEs to donors, investors, and business development opportunities. 🔑 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀: 1. Plant Biodefenders (𝗧𝗮𝗻𝘇𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗮): First-place winner, Champion of eco-friendly pest control solutions like the innovative Vuruga Biocide which protects crops, boosts yields, and supports pollinators. They also produce medicinal herbal teas. 💚 2. AgriTech Analytics Limited (𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮): Second-place winner. This innovative company integrates AI, IoT, and satellite data with solar-powered devices to help smallholder farmers monitor weather, soil, and crop health. By delivering timely advice and alerts, they aim to boost yields, combat crop risks, and advance food security across Africa.🌱 3️. Apiculture Venture Limited (𝗞𝗲𝗻𝘆𝗮): Third-place winner. Apiculture provides modern beekeeping equipment, honey and beeswax processing, and training. By promoting sustainable practices, they enhance hive productivity, improve farmer incomes, strengthen food security, and support ecological balance.🌾 Over the next year, Biovision will support the winners in showcasing how they use their grants best to grow and create impact. We also applaud finalists 𝗚𝗼𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗞𝗮𝘆𝘆𝗮𝗻 & 𝗞𝘆𝗼𝗯𝗶𝗷𝗷𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺, and 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗿𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 for their remarkable contributions to the food system.
