Meet Felix, a graduate of Kinvest's Business Leader Development Program. Inspired by the success stories of other graduates, he saw the training as the perfect opportunity to turn his dream of running a retail shop into reality. Before joining the program, Felix had capital and a business idea but lacked the skills to manage and grow his dream. Through our training program, he gained invaluable knowledge in saving, decision-making, and business management skills that have transformed his journey. Now, over a year into running his shop in the Nyenyeri community, Felix has achieved remarkable milestones. He has bought a pig and a bicycle, actively participates in a savings group, and supports his family financially. His shop serves the local community, providing essential goods and services. Nyenyeri now benefits from Felix's efforts. Felix encourages others to take advantage of the training, saying, "Many people start businesses but fail because they lack the skills. Kinvest provides the knowledge we need to succeed and grow." His goal is to expand his shop and create jobs, helping his community thrive through employment opportunities. What is #Tujyane? Tujyane, meaning let’s go together, is our commercial transportation service designed to connect rural communities to high-value markets. In rural Rwanda, over 55.3% of people live more than two kilometers away from all-season roads, limiting their access to essential goods, services, and opportunities. Tujyane addresses this challenge by offering an affordable, efficient, and #sustainabletransportation solution for local businesses.  With Tujyane, goods are transported 4x faster and at a third of the cost, enabling local businesses to grow and thrive. We serve 30-50 clients a month and have worked with a total of 750 clients in Eastern Rwanda. In our first year of operation, we transported over 238,000 kilograms of goods.  Tujyane is also going #electric. This focus on eco-friendly transportation aligns with the broader goal of supporting sustainable development in rural areas. In 2025, we aim to completely convert our remaining vehicles, while refining our design and improving our services.   In the long term, Tujyane envisions a future where rural businesses can overcome the challenges of distance and transportation, allowing them to succeed and improve their livelihoods. The Shimwa Paul Market Hub has become a key source of opportunity for over 35 local small business owners, providing them with tools to grow and thrive. From restaurant owners to welders and salon owners, the hub serves a diverse group of entrepreneurs dedicated to the development of their local community.  Faith, a Restaurant Owner at the hub since 2021, explained,"Shimwa Paul Market Hub has given my restaurant the visibility it needed. The foot traffic and supportive community here have helped me grow my business. This hub has truly been a game-changer." Chantal, our Water Operator since September, shared, "Before the Shimwa Paul Market Hub, people had to travel far to find water. Now, with water readily available here, I see how much it’s improved everyone’s daily lives." Celestin, our Hub Operator since 2022, added, "At the Shimwa Paul Market Hub, people can work without being limited by power issues. With reliable electricity and a secure environment, business owners can focus on growing their businesses without worrying about basic needs. It’s a place where entrepreneurs can truly succeed." This December, we delivered 900kg of rice over 15km from a local farm to be processed. “Before the training, I worked for someone else. Now, I run my own business and can support my family.” Jackline, a 2024 graduate of our Business Leader Development Program in the Bwiza community, turned her life around utilizing the skills she gained. Before the program, she experienced inconsistent employment. After graduating, she opened her own retail shop in her local community. Through the Business Leader Development training, Jackline learned essential skills like financial management, saving, and business planning. These skills helped her budget wisely, track her expenses, and save for investments. She also gained confidence in decision-making, allowing her to run her shop effectively and focus on its growth. In just two months, her business is running smoothly. Jackline is now financially independent, meeting her needs and helping her family. She’s also an active member of two savings groups, planning to use her savings to expand her shop to better serve the needs of her community. Her ultimate dream is to own a large retail store to contribute to her community's development and improve access to essential goods.    Jackline’s story proves that the right skills can open doors to independence and success. Ejo Heza, our Asset-Based Community Development group in Shimwa Paul, is making impressive strides! When we last spoke with the group, they had only two pigs. Now, they have over 20 healthy, growing piglets!  Since beginning their journey in March, the group has focused on pig farming for its cost-effectiveness and profitability. They meet weekly to save and plan, ensuring they can cover daily farming costs and save funds for future expansion.  With the birth of these new piglets, Ejo Heza is making significant progress toward its mission of strengthening the local community. “Now I have what I need to run my business and support my family.” Meet Elie Ntirenganya, electronics shop owner and tenant at our Nyenyeri Market Hub. Elie joined our Business Leader Development Program in 2022 and learned the value of saving and managing his finances. After graduating, he was able to start renting space within the Nyenyeri Market Hub. With his savings, Elie purchased the equipment he needed to operate effectively. Today, Elie runs his business smoothly and he is thankful for the consistent electricity and high customer flow at the hub. He can now pay for family insurance, cover his household expenses, and plan for the future. Elie’s next goal is to expand his electronics shop, and with the skills and opportunities he’s gained, he is confident that he will achieve it. We’re so excited to see the construction of the Akayange Market Hub underway! With materials already on-site, we’re delighted to move into the initial stages of construction and bring this project closer to completion. This market hub will be a lively space where local entrepreneurs can grow their businesses, share ideas, and create economic opportunities for the community. With reliable renewable energy and commercial spaces, it will be a place that supports innovation and growth.  The hub will be equipped with a business training room and a water kiosk that will serve nearly 9,000 people.
