For many, the birth of a child is one of life’s most cherished milestones. But for over 16 million women each year, giving birth in hospitals and clinics without access to clean water, proper toilets, or soap turns this joyous moment into a challenging and unsafe experience. A toilet should be a secure, hygienic and private place where people can relieve themselves in dignity and safety - and it should be connected to a safely managed sanitation system to properly dispose of waste. 🚽🚽🚽 There is 3.5 billion people still living without safely managed sanitation, including 419 million who practise open defecation. On this #World ToiletDay 2024, Government and Development Partners should pool funds together on having improved in HCFs, Schools and Public places. More investment and better governance of sanitation in all settings are critical for a fairer, more peaceful world #Toiletaplaceforpeace

What if a toilet could change your life? For girls, having a safe place to manage their periods means they are more likely to stay in school. This has lifelong consequences – affecting their friendships, their studies and careers in later life. #WorldToiletDay
