We’re proud to make an exciting addition to ATHR Gallery with the representation of Lulua AlYahya. Marking this occasion is Alyahya’s first solo exhibition in Saudi Arabia: “Nafs” opening on January 25 at 9pm. Lulua’s paintings are sparsely composed of dislocated subjects, posing strange yet familiar accounts of culturally resonant archetypes. The depicted figures are often steeped in irony, candid and idle, situated against nondescript backgrounds. The exhibition will be on display from January 25 until March 25, 2025. ATHR celebrates a historic milestone as our artist Muhannad Shono takes on the role of Contemporary Art Curator at the Islamic Arts Biennale 2025. (@biennale_sa) A prominent figure in both Saudi and global art scenes, Muhannad Shono has spent the past decade redefining storytelling and innovation through his groundbreaking work. From representing the Kingdom at the Venice Biennale in 2022 to being knighted into the French Order of Arts and Letters and releasing his first monograph in 2024, his achievements are nothing short of remarkable. Now, Shono has been named Contemporary Art Curator for the second edition of the Islamic Arts Biennale, held at Jeddah’s Western Hajj Terminal from January 25 to May 25—a testament to his profound contributions to global art. Join us in celebrating this trailblazer and inspiration to artists everywhere. We are proud to support Muhannad Shono on his journey and look forward to witnessing more milestones to come.

We’re thrilled to announce the representation of contemporary calligrapher and artist Nasser AlSalem. We invite you to experience his groundbreaking solo exhibition, “The Edge of Language,” at ATHR JAX, Riyadh, opening on January 20 from 7 - 9 pm and on view until April 20, 2025. AlSalem’s training in calligraphy is traditional, but his practice pushes the boundaries of this Islamic heritage art form through experimentation on and innovating with novel mediums and mixed media to explore their conceptual potential. Nasser’s concepts are a departure from traditional calligraphy. His artworks highlight topics outside the mainstream that resonate with him

With a strong conceptual treatment by acclaimed graphic designer Edwin van Gelder (Mainstudio), the book contextualizes Shono’s work within a transformative juncture in the region and the art world at large.
