SABIC Specialties’ ULTEM™, EXTEM™, and SILTEM™ resin portfolios offer candidate material solutions to each challenging design and application. In a constant demand for thinner, lighter, more energy-efficient devices, manufactures need to make products that are cost-effective to produce, comply with demanding regulatory requirements, yet meet consumers’ expectations for style, ease of use and sustainability. With a variety of different polyetherimide and polyimide based resins, the portfolio has a fit in a multitude of industries and markets, such as Mobility, Consumer Electronics, Electrical and Mass Transportation. The company's non-halogenated SILTEM™ resins are easy to extrude amorphous copolymers with no intentionally added PFAS for potential use in applications such as high-performance wires and cables. Evaluating VHP for #medicaldevice sterilization? The FDA recently listed vaporized hydrogen peroxide as an Established Category A method of sterilization (link in the comments) and an alternative to ethylene oxide (EtO). SABIC’s ULTEM™ HU resins are well suited for VHP sterilization. PPSU, on the other hand, can become embrittled after repeated exposure. Our flyer (link in the comments) compares property retention for ULTEM HU resins and PPSU after 300 VHP cycles. SABIC’s resins showed better tensile elongation at break and multiaxial impact than PPSU (see test disks below). BTW: ULTEM HU materials remain stable when exposed to many other sterilization methods, including steam autoclave, gamma radiation, X-Ray and electron beam methods. #SABIC #plastics #ChemistryThatMatters #SABICSpecialties #healthcare
