The Way Forward strategy was presented on Billerud’s Capital Markets Day Today, Billerud hosted its Capital Markets Day in Stockholm, Sweden, where President & CEO Ivar Vatne, accompanied by members of the management team, presented the strategy. In short, the ambition is to strengthen the performance in Europe by focusing on value over volume. Billerud will evolve towards packaging materials in North America, and today announced an investment to enable the transition towards paperboard production. We also presented goals to reduce emissions, including more efficient use of energy in the North American business. Billerud’s new financial targets emphasize the importance of capital efficiency, profitability and cash flow. A recording of the Capital Markets Day will be available on Billerud's website.

Billerud introduces ConFlex CoatBase Met, a high-performing base paper specially designed for vacuum metallization. In the food industry a large portion of existing packaging materials are expected to be phased out in favor more sustainable options. In Italy, metallized paper is the preferred choice for cold-cut packaging due to its visual appeal and recyclability in regular recycling streams. "Brand owners and producers in the food industry are increasingly demanding sustainable solutions and recyclable products. Now that we have developed a product for cold-cut packaging, we see great opportunities for other types of packaging within food and beverages. Today is World Sustainable Transport Day! 🌍🚢 At Billerud, we know that optimizing transport and logistics play an important role when it comes to sustainability. By redesigning our logistics network, we’ve achieved a system that is not only more robust and flexible but also reduces emissions.   Here’s how we did it: ✅ Extensive data analysis We examined over 4,000 routes from our mills to European customers, identifying opportunities to reduce the number of routes, streamline distances and optimize terminals to build a more robust network. ✅ Enhanced terminal capacity We consolidated and upgraded key terminals, closing inefficient ones to ensure better functionality and scalability. ✅ New transport modes We introduced vessel flows from southern Sweden to key European terminals, reducing our reliance on road transport. ✅ A unified network By creating a shared logistics system for all segments and mills, we’ve minimized inefficiencies and built a foundation for future sustainability.   “This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and focused efforts of our logistics team, customer service and sales, whose hard work and collaboration ensured the successful transition of all routes to the new system”, says Sara Westlund, Logistics Development and Sustainability Manager at Billerud. #WorldSustainableTransportDay #TransportDay #SustainableLogistics

Yesterday, we were excited to host the Pro Carton Young Designers Award winners at Billerud! It was a day filled with inspiration, learning, and a shared passion for sustainable packaging  📦✨ Our team led sessions and guided the group through the mill. Christian Morling took them on a tour of our recovery boiler at Frövi, and Niklas Evertsson led the tour of our KM5 machine, giving these innovative students a close-up view of our work with renewable materials and sustainable solutions. At our Carton Solutions Lab, Magnus Rydberg held a hands-on session demonstrating tear strips on packaging and exploring the balance between formability and stiffness in various types of cartonboard. We’re confident they’ll take what they’ve learned here and use it to make an impact in the industry. Best of luck to these talented designers on their journey! We can’t wait to see where they go—and perhaps welcome some back to Billerud in the future.
