New partnership: Kalmar and Elonroad partner to pilot dynamic EV charging for ports 🤝 🛣 ⚓️ Kalmar, the forerunner in sustainable material handling equipment and services, partners with Elonroad to build a 200-metre electric road for charging electric vehicles. The electric road, to be built at Kalmar’s Innovation Center in Ljungby, Sweden, enables electric vehicles to be charged dynamically both while moving and stationary through rails in the ground. This innovative solution would reduce the need for large batteries onboard the vehicles, grid capacity, while improving vehicle uptime. Per-Erik Johansson, Technology Manager at Kalmar, said: “After some years of exploring and evaluating a dynamic charging solution for electric vehicles, we are now at a point where we are able to verify the technology. The project, supported by The Swedish Energy Agency, will initially retrofit a reachstacker and a terminal tractor from Kalmar, followed by a verification phase to test charging efficiency and uptime improvements on the electric road. In the second stage of the project, the technology will be tested in a real-life port environment with pilot customers.” Tommi Pettersson, SVP of Strategy, Sustainability, and Technology at Kalmar, said: “At Kalmar, we have always been the forerunner in new technologies and innovative solutions to provide value for our customers, which is why this collaboration is so interesting. Together with Elonroad, we can be the firsts on the market to demonstrate a charging solution of “unlimited onboard energy”. Karin Ebbinghaus, CEO at Elonroad, said: “At the heart of this project is an innovative solution that combines Elonroad's technology for automatic charging with Kalmar's expertise in port and terminals, distribution centres and industrial applications. By collaborating with Kalmar, we hope to contribute to solutions that are not only better for the environment, but also improve efficiency and reduce costs worldwide. This is the future of industrial infrastructure – smart, sustainable and economically viable." #EVcharging #Partnerships #Ports #Electricroads #EV

🇸🇬 Singapore, your openness to collaboration and incredible hospitality have left a lasting impression ❤️ Last week, Karin Ebbinghaus, CEO of Elonroad, presented how a joint partnership—including electric road systems— will pave the way for a green transition in transportation at PSA International as part of Their Majesties of Sweden's state visit to Singapore. Collaborating with industry leaders like Scania Group/Scania Singapore, Elonroad is proving that electric roads and vehicles can not only deliver on sustainability goals but also lower total cost of ownership (TCO) compared to diesel 🚛⚡ As Southeast Asia’s leading innovation hub, Singapore showcases the transformative potential of partnerships and cutting-edge solutions in a rapidly expanding market. The visit was filled with inspiring panel discussions and high-level keynotes, particularly the strategic insights that Temasek and CEO Dilhan Pillay shared on driving digital and green transitions powered by AI. One key insight from the visit: impactful leadership is built on the strength of working together. 🙏🏼 A heartfelt thank you to Team Sweden, Business Sweden, Vinnova, The Embassy of Sweden, Singapore, and all the organizations that made this state visit a great success. Sweden’s strength lies in co-creation, and the triple helix approach—bringing together public, private, and academic efforts—is essential to achieving the green transition. Now, we look forward to the next chapter. #Netzero #Sustainability #Innovation #Greentransition #Electricroads #Partnership #SwedeninSingapore #Elonroad

Thank you, Jakob Rogstadius, for your new electric road system impact assessment study. The urgency for swift action is clear. ❗️The study confirms what we’re seeing at Elonroad. The urgency for swift action is clear: delays in ERS investments could cost €4 billion by 2050 (€300 million per year) and result in 300 kt of CO2 emissions annually just in Sweden. The study is based on Swedish data. Wishing to replicate this study for another country, do contact Jakob Rogstadius. The simulation tool is free and open source, and equivalent input data is available for most industrialized countries 👇🏾 https://lnkd.in/d5jPYDUk
🎉 New electric road system impact assessment study published! 🎉 Title: Utilization and Economic-Environmental Impacts of Future Electric Road Systems for Heavy Trucks in Sweden Key research questions: ❔ How many percent of Swedish truck traffic would use a Swedish electric road system network? ❔ How would utilization be impacted by variations in ERS network scope, ERS pricing, availability of static charging, and diesel pricing? Key findings: 🚚 ERS will be used by up to 70-90% of heavy truck traffic within the network, depending on if user fees are set to maximize revenue or social good. ⚡ ERS raises traffic electrification to ~90% within the ERS network. Not much impact on electrification elsewhere. 💰 Initial investment, maintenance and reinvestment costs can likely be fully covered by user fees. 💶 Viable pricing is approximately in the span between that of night-time depot charging and day-time public fast-charging. 📉 Willingness to pay (WTP) for ERS use starts higher than static charging and converges over time. WTP varies regionally within Sweden. Different users along the same roads have very different WTP, suggesting differentiated pricing should be explored. 🔥 The estimated opportunity cost of delayed ERS investment is equivalent to approximately €300 million (€30 per capita) per year of delay. Overnight depot charging is also very cost efficient. 🔋 In the absence of ERS, demand for public static fast charging may still decrease significantly when batteries become cheap. 🥇 DFDS holds the largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks in Europe 👇🏾 At Elonroad, we recognize the importance of ambitious sustainability goals and the commitment required to achieve them. This is why we're excited to highlight DFDS’s proactive efforts to reduce its environmental impact and contribute to a cleaner future for all. DFDS is a leading maritime transport and logistics player dedicated to connecting people and goods across Europe. Its extensive network of vessels, road transport, and warehousing solutions makes it a critical link in the continent’s supply chains. With this reach comes a responsibility to reduce its environmental impact, and DFDS is stepping up with a determined plan to achieve net-zero emissions. 🇪🇺 The European Union has set a challenging goal of becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. As one of the largest sources of greenhouse gases, the transport and logistics sector—responsible for approximately 25% of the EU’s total emissions—plays a vital role in meeting this target. DFDS is embracing this challenge head-on with a clear roadmap to decarbonize their operations: ⛴ For their vessels, DFDS is on track to reduce CO2 intensity by 45% by 2030 to be climate-neutral by 2050. 🚛 For road transport and warehousing, they aim to reduce emissions by 75% by 2030 and target net zero by 2050. DFDS recently intensified its decarbonization efforts by ordering 100 Volvo Trucks electric trucks, bringing its total to 225 heavy-duty electric trucks. 🥇 Currently, DFDS holds the largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks in Europe, taking significant strides towards its target of having at least 25% of its truck fleet electrified by 2030. This expanded fleet will be deployed in existing markets across Europe. It will also reach new regions like the UK, Ireland, and Finland, meeting the growing demand for low-emission transport solutions. DFDS focuses on decarbonization techniques like electrification, alternative fuels, and circular practices to achieve these goals, leading to sustainable logistics. This is essential to supporting the EU’s climate objectives and building a resilient future for the transport industry. At Elonroad, we 👏🏻 DFDS for its dedication to sustainability and are inspired by its drive to create real change. Initiatives like these collectively move closer to a fossil-free future, helping the EU realize its vision of a climate-neutral continent. #Sustainabletransport #DFDS #Netzero #Greenshipping #Ports #EUclimategoals
