International Network for Terrestrial Research and Monitoring in the Arctic

Om oss

INTERACT is an infrastructure project under the auspices of SCANNET, an arctic network of 72 terrestrial field bases (formerly 91, but collaboration with Russia is currently on hold) in Northern Europe, US, Canada, Greenland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Scotland as well as stations in northern alpine areas. INTERACT specifically seeks to build capacity for research and monitoring all over the Arctic, and is offering access to numerous research stations through the Transnational Access Program. The project has a main objective to build capacity for identifying, understanding, predicting and responding to diverse environmental changes throughout the wide environmental and land-use envelopes of the Arctic. This is necessary because the Arctic is so vast and so sparsely populated that environmental observing capacity is limited compared to most other latitudes. INTERACT is multidisciplinary: together, the stations in INTERACT host thousands of scientists from around the world who work on projects within the fields of glaciology, permafrost, climate, ecology, biodiversity and biogeochemical cycling. The INTERACT stations also host and facilitate many international single-discipline networks and aid training by hosting summer schools. INTERACT non-profit association was founded in 2020 to ensure the long-term sustainability of the network and to provide it with a legal entity once the INTERACT project will end in December 2024. INTERACT III projektin loppukokous järjestettiin Smygehamnissa Ruotsissa. Onneksi INTERACT Non-Profit Association -INPA- jatkaa toimintaa, mutta ilman kattavaa rahoitusta toiminta on pienimuotoisempaa. Mahdollisuus tutkimusvierailuihin asemille halutaan säilyttää samoin kuin asemien tukiverkosto, jossa jaetaan osaamista ja kokemuksia. Ihana ympäristö ja ihmiset 😍 Kiitos Smygehus Havsbad!

  • 🚀 Exciting news! The AQUARIUS-RI project, funded by Horizon Europe, has launched its first €8.1M transnational access funding call, supporting research and innovation for healthier oceans 🌊. INTERACT NPA and INKODE played a key role by customising the Transnational Access Platform (TAP) to enable this launch. Luisella Bianco, CEO of INTERACT NPA: “Seeing TAP adapted for other projects shows its strength and versatility. We look forward to many future applications advancing scientific research!” Applications are open now until Jan 20, 2025.
