A guide to Sweden – United States partnerships within sustainable mobility In a move to support partnerships between Swedish and United States-based innovators, the Future Mobility initiative has developed a handbook that offers insights on how to collaborate across the Atlantic. The handbook is based on two workshops where a total of 29 innovation leaders shared their experiences of Sweden–United States collaboration. “This document was developed in close collaboration with Swedish and American project managers, who are or have been involved in a Future Mobility project.” – Josephine Darlington, Future Mobility. The development of the new handbook was led by Josephine Darlington, Future Mobility, together with Swedish and United States-based actors who collaborate or have collaborated with support from Future Mobility. It outlines practical steps for mobility actors looking to establish joint projects. It serves as a roadmap, helping Swedish and United States actors understand key aspects of working with partners across the Atlantic, from initial matchmaking to securing funding and managing a collaboration project. How Future Mobility Supports These Collaborations Future Mobility, a publicly funded initiative, offers free services to actors interested in forming innovation partnerships with the United States or Sweden. The support includes practical matchmaking, funding guidance, and strategic advice to help projects get off the ground. By offering these resources, Future Mobility aims to lower the barriers to collaboration and ensure that Swedish and United States-based actors can effectively engage in transatlantic innovation projects.

David Gundlegård, Anna Danielsson and I had the opportunity to conduct a research visit to Xtelligent in Los Angeles last week as part of the project "Dashboards for Decision Support in Highway Congestion Management" last week. This initiative is part of Vinnova Future Mobility program aimed at strengthening the cooperation between actors in Sweden and the USA in the field of mobility. The project focuses on developing decision-support tools for managing highway congestion, data visualization to support transportation agencies in addressing traffic challenges. This visit provided valuable insights into the current Xtelligent product, and opportunities to discuss how our sketch of dashboards for traffic monitoring and incident management can be designed, contributing to the advancement of the project. We look forward to continuing this work and further exploring its implications for highway congestion management. Thanks to Michael Lim, Richard Pelletier and Isabel Li at Xtelligent for hosting our visit in LA. We also had the possibility to pass by at UC Berkeley for a seminar ( https://lnkd.in/d3UBdaFb )

🚀 Exciting milestone! Thanks to Vinnova and Future Mobility funding, our project to develop a Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) roadmap in California includes meeting important stakeholders. We’re heading to San Francisco to engage with utilities, policymakers, research centers, and V2G pilot sites. This will provide invaluable insights to advance our understanding and accelerate the integration of these transformative technologies. We've just participated in the International Mobility Data Summit 2024 in Montreal, bringing mobility innovators from all over the world together. The summit highlighted the critical role that mobility data and standardization play in shaping the future of sustainable transportation. → Our Program Director, Hans Pohl, shared the stage with experts like Madeline Zhu from the U.S. Department of Transportation in a panel titled "How Governments Encourage Collaboration to Leverage Learning Across Communities and Countries." The conversation focused on how collaboration is driving innovations in mobility solutions across borders. "The International Mobility Data Summit was a great opportunity to showcase how collaboration between nations is essential to address the global mobility challenges we face today. The discussions highlighted how Future Mobility and its innovation projects bring together innovators from both Sweden and the United States to create solutions that make transportation more sustainable and accessible for all." — Hans Pohl, Program Director, Future Mobility → In another session Steven Jones from the Alabama Transportation Institute, shared insights into the Future Mobility-funded project Transit-Oriented Development and Shared Autonomous Vehicles, in which his team in collaboration with Royal Institute of Technology aim to decarbonize transportation and build innovative mobility hubs in both nations. → A standout moment came when Albert Benedict from SUMC presented another Future Mobility-funded innovation project, Women-Centered Mobility Hub project, focusing on inclusive mobility solutions that respond to the unique needs of women and caregivers. → Also present at the summit was Subhro Guhathakurta, from Georgia Institute of Technology. He noted that he was at first surprised to get a project mentor from the Future Mobility Advisory Board and then very happy about it. Among others, it made him discover this summit. His team collaborates with Lund University in a project funded by Future Mobility named Just Future. At Future Mobility, we’re proud to support innovation projects like these that advance sustainable mobility solutions and build new pathways for United States-Sweden collaboration. Future Mobility is an innovation platform aimed at connecting Swedish and American actors to collaborate on sustainable mobility. The program was launched in 2022 and is run by Lindholmen Science Park and Vinnova. We fund strategic projects where at least one American and one Swedish organization collaborate to advance sustainable mobility. Want to learn more about how you can connect with either the United States or the Swedish innovation system and how we can help? Let’s connect!
