Om oss

We make furniture for people. Not for art or cost-efficiency, but for those who will use it. We make our furniture for your home. For the hotel, you visit and the dining-rooms you eat in. For your meals, your meetings, your moments for yourself. For us, every piece of furniture has its own purpose. We make each piece in a unique way. Yet always with the same idea. It must be beautiful to look at, lovely to sit in and durable enough to use. Over and over again. That’s why we started Gärsnäs, where the timber grew next to the factory. Ash, oak and beech. With passionate craftsmanship that respects every growth ring. And a devotion to passing knowledge on. It has been 125 years now, and we still follow the same philosophy today. With the same materials, in the same factory, with the same skills created over generations. But our most important work is not done in Gärsnäs. It is done everywhere. For us, every piece of furniture is a journey of discovery. An exploration through time and space. Through the history of craftsmanship and the future of design. To the place where our furniture meets you who will use it. If we are to make furniture for people, then we must never stop wondering. Never stop asking and never stop being astonished. We have to always search, try, fail and improve until each angle is well thought-out and every detail has a purpose. This is how we build furniture at Gärsnäs. With classic craftsmanship. Genuine materials. And a never-ending curiosity. Gärsnäs was founded in 1897. It is a family-owned company, managed since 2003 by Anna and Dag Klockby along with Åke Axelsson. Åke designed his first chair for Gärsnäs in 1963 and since then he has designed over 100 more. Production takes place in Gärsnäs, Skåne, but if you would like to see and feel our furniture, then visit our showroom in Stockholm. On Skeppsbron we have furnished a suite of rooms for you to experience the furniture in its proper setting. Welcome!

  • Judith a personality in the hallway. Hallways, entrances, cloakrooms and vestibules are often left in the shade. Strange, since they are the first thing we encounter in a home or workplace. With our new coat rack design, Judith, Gärsnäs and Studio Stockholm want to change all of that. Judith provides functionality and finesse for our forgotten cloakroom. “We wanted to make something that highlighted a somewhat neglected product category. Judith is modular and works in all contexts, from small hallways to large entrances for offices and conference facilities,” says the designer, Martin Eckerberg Ollas at Studio Stockholm Arkitektur. https://lnkd.in/deYJiUM2

  • Japanese design meets the art of Swedish furniture making in the HidaHida chair. This unique collaboration between architect Kengo Kuma and Gärsnäs is based on a common view on the importance of craftsmanship and materials. “With HidaHida, I wanted to capture the softness of the human body’s form. The chair embraces you. A hanging skirt at the back elevates the chair’s conviviality and associates it with elegance and fashion. That’s what I wanted to express with HidaHida,” says world-renowned architect Kengo Kuma, who is impressed by the level of craftsmanship at Gärsnäs and Åke Axelsson’s elegant, minimalistic Nomad collection, made in Åke’s workshop. HidaHida is available in beech or oak, with a seat of recycled felt upholstered in fabric or leather. HidaHida in collaboration with Kengo Kuma Associates and Coad & Materials and Gärsnäs. I’m beautiful, wouldn’t you say? My name is HidaHida and I’m designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and developed by Gärsnäs. The construction is quite matter-of-fact, with a load-bearing frame of steam-bent beech or oak. The upholstery is draped over me, hence the name Hida, which means to drape in Japanese. The seams give me a feeling of hand-sewn, high-class fashion: haute couture from Österlen, Sweden. HidaHida premieres at the Grand Hyatt Tokyo on 20 November. https://lnkd.in/dgFs8fcu ////////////////////////////// Visst är jag vacker? KENGO KUMA & ASSOCIATES

  • A Gärsnäs friend is returning home. Adam Jismark, our new old salesman has come back. “I’ve actually been longing for it,” says Adam from his home in Tranås, where his travels begin and end. “Gärsnäs is a unique and well-renowned company with wonderful products and a great reputation. It’s in that context and environment that I find inspiration to work.” He has been away since 2018. “That’s when you realize what you had and what you miss.” It’s not just the products, but perhaps mainly the people that are important for building relationships and trust. “I’m passionate about interacting with people to discuss our great products and meet with architects and distributors.” Welcome back, Adam Jismark. ----- #garsnas1893 #garsnascircularvision #garsnas2030 #design #scandinaviandesign
