We are happy to see another important step toward a decarbonized EU. Fredrik Rosenqvist and the team at Qvantum International has not only secured additional capital but is also attracting expertise at all levels, including Mats Rahmström, former CEO of Atlas Copco, who is now part of the board. We are fortunate to be part of this journey and are eager to see the results of combining a deep understanding of heat pumps with insights into the specific needs of Europe’s gas-dominated heating market. Additionally, during a time when we must drastically cut emissions and find ways to scale green technology fast, we strongly believe in the benefits of repurposing existing production facilities as a way to accelerate production and reduce risk. Baseload Capital just secured €53m to scale up geothermal energy: a 24/7 available source of clean power and heat. The money will be used to invest in geothermal projects across the world in the US, Iceland, Taiwan and Japan. In 2018, Gullspång co-founded Baseload Capital with the idea to accelerate the roll out of geothermal energy globally. It is amazing to see how the team at Baseload relentlessly has fought to deliver on this mission and grown the business that now operates across three continents and involves multiple partners from various industries. Well done, team Baseload!

Yesterday, I was invited by the Minister for Rural Affairs to discuss Sweden's Food Strategy 2.0 together with some of the country's leading food producers and retailers. https://lnkd.in/gRmdny8A Although I endorse the efforts to increase digitalization and reduce bureaucracy in the current value chains in Sweden, the global transition to a sustainable and resilient food system that can feed the 8B+ people on this planet offers a much bigger opportunity. My key points were: 1. Although Swedish food production is world-class from a quality, sustainability, and animal welfare perspective and something to be proud of (and support with your wallet), it is still far from operating within acceptable planetary and ethical boundaries. Tomorrow's food production needs to sequester carbon, support vital ecosystems, and make people healthy. 2. Sweden's Food Strategy should not only support the current food producers but also the technologies of the future, such as precision fermentation (the second domestication), biostimulants, and upcycling technologies. It's not enough to make more of the same (with less input); a sustainable food system will also need brand-new value chains. 3. The large subsidies to the current system are slowing down the necessary change (✌️🌱 Jonathan Petrides and Christoph Jenny I think you agree). It is encouraging to see the Government Offices, current market leaders, and Academia all aligned on the fact that we need to make this transition (although we don't always agree on the path there -- but that's how it should be in a democracy). There are a couple of generic strategies that can be applied to transform a system. One of them is to create new platforms for collaboration and provide education to create a critical mass that can challenge and address the existing flaws of a system. The Vilokan Initiative has been launched to promote greater insight into, appreciation of and respect for the planet’s natural resources - water being one of the most important. The work is based on seven objectives, used to align collaboration around our precious water resource.
