Stockholm, November 26, 2024 – Implenia Sweden has been awarded the contract to build a double-track train tunnel system, including service tunnels, beneath the central Vasastan district of Göteborg, Sweden. This ambitious project involves complex urban tunnelling, including extensive rock excavation and reinforcement activities in close proximity to densely populated areas. The work will involve blasting and excavating approximately 225,000 m³ of hard rock, starting in the last quarter of 2024, with completion planned for 2029. #hypexbio #implenia #tunneling #sustainableinfrastructrue #partnership

Last week, the Hypex Bio Explosives Technology team completed a large-scale surface trial series in partnership with Verdalskalk AS, Norway. The aim of the trials was to demonstrate that Hypex HPE technology can act as a direct replacement for traditional ammonium nitrate emulsion. The trials were successfully completed, proving that not only can Hypex HPE fully replace the traditional product, but it also achieved optimal results with lower powder factors (this blast used a powder factor of around 0.3). Further work to optimize the blasts is likely to result in even better energy efficiency. BREAKTHROUGH: Last Friday, the first breakthrough blast was conducted at the Implenia Högdalsdepå project. This blast is notable not only for its symbolic importance in marking the completion of the tunnel blasting for one of the tunnel sections but also because it represents the 100th blast of HPE carried out in this project. Yesterday, the formal inauguration of the Hypex Bio Explosives Technology emulsion plant took place at the Boliden Kankberg mine in Skellefteå, Sweden. This now operationally ready facility represents a major step forward in the implementation and rollout process of Hypex Bio's nitrate-free explosives technology and is also a key deliverable achieved through the focused and committed collaboration between Boliden and Hypex Bio. The commercialization of Hypex HPE explosives technology signifies a credible industrial shift toward sustainable drilling and blasting practices, a key factor in enabling the green transition of the global mining industry. MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH: Last week, the Hypex Bio team, in partnership with Franzefoss and Verdalskalk, conducted the world’s first MEMU-charged, full HPE surface blast. This historic event marks a significant milestone in our long journey of technological development, enabling the chemical and mechanical application of the nitrate- and ammonia-free Hypex bulk solution in large-diameter surface holes. Twelve months of intensive development and trials culminated in excellent results, with 50,000 tons of limestone being blasted. This achievement underscores the technological shift that Hypex HPE represents:  We can, and will, supply the future of sustainable commercial explosives. MILESTONE REACHED: Over the past two weeks, Hypex Bio, in partnership with Swiss SSE Group, commissioned and launched the first Hypex HPE production plant at the SSE facility in Gamsen, Switzerland. A full, state-of-the-art, high-capacity production plant, along with an advanced tank farm, was successfully commissioned. In addition, underground charging systems were calibrated and function-tested in an initial blast. We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the project teams on both sides for their professionalism, dedication, and hard work throughout this complex project. Leaving the Swedish summer vacation period behind us, we are now back in the office in full force, kicking off our projects with a flying start.
