<<INSIGHTS>> Our Business Developer Lisa Granath is at Impact Summit. She shares that "nearly 75% (!) of all venture capital in Sweden went to impact companies last year. This places Sweden in second place in Europe for impact investments. Despite challenging investment conditions for startups overall, impact investments are growing. Why?" “It’s not an option not to build this type of company. It’s the only way forward.” That’s what Sofia Lindelöw Managing Director Nordics at Norrsken VC, said during Impact Summit Sweden 2024, according to Dagens Industri. What are Impact Investments? A way to use money to make a difference in the world while still earning a financial return. It has a twofold goal: 1) to support projects or businesses that create positive change in areas like education, renewable energy, or healthcare, and 2) to earn money from the investment. The main idea is to measure success not just in financial terms but also by looking at the real-world effects of the investment—such as reduced carbon emissions. https://lnkd.in/dSbHbuAj
Henrik Henriksson från Stegra, berättade hur deras idé kunde dra in 71 Miljarder i investering.

<<COMMUNITY & COMPANY NETWORKING >>This year, #SkåneInnovationDay 2024 marked 10 years of innovation days in collaboration with Region Skåne – utveckling & innovation. The theme, Innovation for Green Transition, brought together 800 participants and 28 companies and organizations, all passionate about innovation and sustainability. Anna Jähnke, Chairperson of the Regional Development Committee, Region Skåne, opened the event with an inspiring call to action: to be even more creative and innovative while improving communication to strengthen Skåne. She posed a critical question: How can we, through innovation, contribute to a sustainable future? The day featured many engaging presentations and discussions. Notably, Ebba Willerström Ehrning from Fossilfritt Sverige emphasized the importance of making the energy we already have more efficient, complementing efforts to create new energy sources. She stressed the urgent need for collaboration among all stakeholders to accelerate the transition to green energy. In addition, we gained valuable insights into creating a stronger circular economy. During her presentation, Lisa Schwarz Bour from RISE Research Institutes of Sweden revisited the "R strategies," which are key to sustainable resource management. Do you know them? Here’s a recap: Reduce: Minimize resource use and waste. Design products with fewer materials and energy. Get less! Reuse: Extend the lifespan of products by using them more. Use things longer! Recycle: Use recycled materials to create new products. Buy recycled! Repair: Fix broken things instead of throwing them. Fix more! Refurbish: Renovate items to improve their condition or functionality. Give products new lives! Remanufacture: Rebuild products to like-new condition using reused materials. Support remanufactured goods! Rethink: Reevaluate behaviors and adopt sustainable alternatives. Share more! Lend and borrow more! Recover: Extract usable energy or materials from waste through processes like waste-to-energy. Use the energy we already have more efficiently! This milestone event highlighted how innovation can drive sustainability and reminded us all of our shared responsibility in building a greener future. #SDGs #GreenTransition #Energy #Innovation

<< NEW SPACE TECH>> Mantis Photonics AB re-engineered a hyperspectral space camera originally used to study the Earth’s surface, transforming it to capture detailed images of the back of the eye, specifically the retina. By analyzing proteins in the retina, the camera can detect early indicators of severe diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, making it a powerful tool for preventative healthcare. Meet Mantis Photonics, a deep-tech company participating in ESA BIC Sweden - the national space incubator. [The ESA Business Incubation Centres (ESA BICs) form the largest network of European incubators supporting space-related startups. Ideon Science Park is one of four selected incubators in ESA BIC. ] https://lnkd.in/dv9f_iYR
👁️🗨️ Meet Mantis Photonics AB - an ESA BIC Sweden Incubatee! 👁️🗨️What does your company do and what’s the space connection? Mantis Photonics wants to make its patented camera hyperspectral camera available to patients for health screening by imaging the retina. In the same way a satellite can determine detailed information about the earth's surface from a large distance with a detailed camera, our camera allows you to deliver information about the health of your eye and the rest of your body by taking images of the back of your eye. The eye is the window to your health! With our technology, retinal imaging is not only safe and fast, but also completely non-invasive, ensuring your comfort and peace of mind. 👁️🗨️How and when did your startup journey begin? Mantis Photonics started in 2021 at Lund University. The company was started by dr Diego Guénot while working in the laboratory of professor Anne L'Huillier. 👁️🗨️Wich obstacles have you met and how have you handled them? Mantis Photonics is building a medical product. This is difficult due to the strict Medical Device Regulation (MDR), the long development time and the requirement to manufacture and distribution the devices according to the regulatory standards. We have established a board of directors with a wide expertise range, including an ophthalmologist, an expert in medical law and regulation and an expert in company management. 👁️🗨️What have you gained by being an incubatee at ESA BIC Sweden? ESA supports us with a grant and allowed us to expand our network and gain exposure for our product. I was able to pitch at the EBAN conference in Brussels. I even won the pitch competition. The validation of a highly respected institute like ESA is a quality reference for investors. 🚀 Why do you think others should apply to EBS? What's in it for startups? ESA allows you to gain exposure for your idea and to widen your network of investors. 🚀 What do you think about the space market - what’s happening now and how will it change? The space market is expanding fast and will gain commercial importance in the future. The collaborations between government organisations and commercial companies is fascinating.
